Abstract: Running is an important segment in triathlon competition. However, little is known about the
behavior of the kinematic variables of triathlon running. The aim of this study was to compare
the behavior of the kinematic variables on three intervals of the triathlon running, performed in
a simulated race time-trial. Nine male triathletes performed the test protocol (cycling-running
succession triathlon race), with 40km of cycling followed by 10km of running. The variables
st th
evaluated were velocity, stride frequency and stride length at three distinct moments: 1 , 5
th st
and 9 km of the run. Increases were found on all variables evaluated: (1) stride length at 1
th st th st th th th
km to 5 km, and 1 km to 9 km; (2) stride frequency at 1 km to 9 km, and 5 km to 9 km;
st th
and (3) velocity at 1 km to 9 km (p<0,05). This increase found on the test velocity is related
to kinematics differences, which result from specific strategy adopted by triathletes.
