Job Description

Job Title: Management Accountant


Responsible to: Finance Manager
Place of Work: Based in Civic House office in Glasgow but will be expected to
attend rehearsals, events, performances and meetings as
necessary
Normal hours of work: 35 hours per week. Monday to Friday. Meal breaks not included

Additional Hours: To be agreed in advance including attending meetings,


rehearsals, performances and other activities outwith office hours
(no additional payment or time of in lieu given for additional
hours)

Overall Purpose
To assist in the provision of financial information to the Director of Finance and
Administration, the Finance Manager and other staff of the National Theatre of Scotland. To
contribute to the continued development and improvement of the organisations management
information systems.

Main Duties and Key Responsibilities

To assist the Finance Manager in the accurate production and distribution of key
management reporting information monthly management accounts, production cost
reports, yearend statutory account etc.
To assist in the accurate maintenance of all Company accounting records, including
all financial ledgers, payroll, VAT etc.
To help ensure that the Company meets all statutory and legal financial obligations
To contribute to the development of management information systems and reporting,
particularly in respect of project reporting
To support the Finance Manager in coordinating the work of the finance team,
ensuring the accurate completion of tasks within agreed timescales
To respond to internal and external enquiries for financial information, providing
prompt and accurate information
To liaise with colleagues across the organisation to gain information and explanations
necessary for the production of accurate financial information
To undertake specific projects as advised by the Finance Manager or Director of
Finance and Administration
To represent the finance department at internal and external meetings, as advised by
the Finance Manager or Director of Finance and Administration
To perform any additional tasks in relation to the creation and provision of financial
information, as requested by the Finance Manager or Director of Finance and
Administration
To work within a flexible, responsive finance team, and in collaboration with
colleagues to ensure that all regular finance tasks are covered in case of absence,
holiday etc.
Key Performance Indicators

Monthly management accounts and reports to budget holders are produced


accurately and distributed in a timely manner
All Company accounting records are kept up to date and accurate
Finance team complete all required tasks within agreed timescales
Internal and external stakeholders receive information to agreed timescales and
replies to enquiries in a timely manner
Quality of management information is consistently improving
Finance Manager and Director of Finance and Administration are supported in
delivering departmental objectives and responsibilities
Quality input is provided to the efficient working of the finance team
Good working relationships are established and maintained with the finance team, all
other colleagues and external stakeholders
Proactive interaction with colleagues throughout the organisation and use of
influencing skills where appropriate is evident
Progression towards recognised accounting qualification

Organisational Requirements

Maintain a high standard of customer care


Use IT applications to service the needs of the post and the organisation
Work towards the achievement of the National Theatre of Scotlands organisational
goals
As the post holder may be the first point of contact for external organisations and
individuals, he/she is expected to remain up to date with developments within the
National Theatre of Scotland and its work
As the post will require handling, processing and recording of restricted information,
confidentiality is required to be maintained at all times

Person Specification

Knowledge & Experience

Minimum of three years experience working at management accountant or finance


officer/supervisor level
Broad base of experience in all aspects of financial and management reporting -
producing monthly management accounts and yearend statutory accounts, reporting
to budget holders, reconciliation procedures etc.

Qualifications/Training Requirements

Part qualified accountant (recognised CCAB qualification) or committed to beginning


this process
Desire to progress through professional training while in this role
Specialist Knowledge

Good understanding of statutory company and charity requirements for financial


reporting
Up to date knowledge of payroll, pension and VAT legislation
Highly experienced user of computerised accounts systems Cedar Open Accounts
preferred
Advanced Excel skills preferred (intermediate skills as minimum)
Experience of working in an arts or charity environment desirable

Practical and Interpersonal Skills

Numerate, with an eye for detail and accuracy


Good time management skills, with ability to prioritise
Results oriented, showing energy and enthusiasm to get things done
Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a busy, flexible team and to deal with a
varied workload
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Confidence in talking to people across the organisation and ability to communicate
financial information to non-finance staff
Desire to work in a creative, dynamic and unconventional environment
Interest in theatre and other art forms

Terms and Conditions of Employment

Annual salary: circa 25,000


(depending on experience)

Holiday entitlement: 34 days per annum


(including 9 Public Holidays)

Probationary period: 6 months

Notice period: 1 month

Pension: Following the probationary period, the Company makes an


8% contribution into the Companys group personal
pension plan on condition that the employee makes
a minimum contribution of 4%.
