HEALTH AWARENESS AMONG ADULTS IN NADUVIL PANCHAYAT

ABSTRACT
Health is the level of functional and metabolic efficiency of a living organism. An
unhealthy solider can never defined the frontiers of this country even when he is provided
with sophisticated weapons similarly an unhealthy farmer cannot produce optimum that can
be produced even if all the technological findings are at his disposal .Apart from the
professional efficiency, which also is indirectly related to our personal life. Health is an
essential characteristics without which are cannot even enjoy our leisure and lead a happy
family and social life.This study is an attempt to find out health awareness among adults in Naduvil
panchayat.

INTRODUCTION
Health is a dynamic condition resulting from a body's constant adjustment
and adaptation in response to stresses and changes in the environment for
maintaining an inner equilibrium called homeostasis. In humans it is the ability of
individuals or communities to adapt and self-manage when facing physical, mental or social
changes. The World Health Organization (WHO) defined health in its broader sense in its
1948 constitution as "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not
merely the absence of disease or infirmity.Personal hygiene is the first step to good grooming
and good health. people have been aware of the importance of hygiene for thousands of
years. the ancient Greeks spend many hours bathing; using fragrances and make up in an
effort to healthy themselves and presentable to others. One of the most effective way we have
to protect ourselves and others from illness is good personal hygiene. This means washing
your hands especially but also your body.
NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Community based health awareness survey is very relevant for the existing condition of
our society,which is facing the problems of life style diseases and several physical and mental
inabilities. The knowledge of food and nutrition and its habits has a direct bearing on the
maintenance of health of an individual.it is also essential to know the nutritive values of
different foods, so that one can choose the best foods according to ones needs.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
To determine the health awareness among adults
To know whether adults are aware about nutritional food
To examine the attitude towards controlling diseases
To know whether adults are aware about personal hygiene and fitness
To find out the use of first aid and safety measures among adults .

METHODOLOGY
Survey method was adopted for the study.The survey was conducted to know
thehealth awareness among the adults in Naduvil Panchayat.20 adults in the Panchayat were
selected for the study. A rating scale containing 30 statements and was administrated among
20 adults. Statements includes the categories are : general health,personal hygiene and fitness,
nutrition and health, safety measures and first aid, control of diseases .
ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA
1. General health surveillance:
In general health surveillance part 60.6% adults know the three dimensions of health are
physical , mental and social and all are closely related.85.6%know that health awareness is
important for all round development of a person.
2. Personal hygiene and personal fitness:
In the part of personal hygiene and personal fitness only 29.5%of peoples believe that
hygiene means the science of preserving health and 35.2% of students do not consider
exercise as a positive habit.
3. Nutrition and health
In the part of nutrition and health 83.8% of peoples consider that selecting a nutritional
plan is important for maintaining their body weight .80.2% of people are ready to change
their eating habits for maintaining a healthy body.
4. Safety measures and first aid :
In the safety measures and first aid part 79.3% of students believe that preliminary
knowledge of body structure and function is must for understanding first aid measures .
78.5%of students know that without the complete knowledge of first aid one should not do
first aid to others

5. Control of diseases
In the part of controlof disease 82.5% of students believe that deep well in rural areas provided
the safest source of drinking water and 80.1% agrees that deficiency diseases are caused by
nutritionally poor diet.
CONCLUSION
The survey helped to interact with people and analyse measures adopted for
maintaining health. Result revealed that most of the people are not conscious about physical
health and are not taking enough food. By participating this survey people got awareness
about the measures to maintain to health.
