In order to improve the lives of their
family, we decided to have them work
to earn a lot money first so that they
could have money enough to aord
their family in many ways. For this
decision, every member of the family
have to work hard everyday to save
money.
The reason why we made the decision
like this is that money is the major factor
to survive, so it is necessary for them to
first earn a lot of money to improve their
lives conditions. Then, if they could earn
much enough money, they can send their
children who are at age of education to
school. So, this seems to be the best
choice because every member will finally
have better living condition as well as
having more children to get education at
the end.

We had interviewed one family and follow their life in Seam reap,
Cambodia for 6 months. The Lym family consist of 6 members with mom
and dad ,two male children and two female children such as David(Dad) ,
Victoria(Mom) , Jackson(14 years old ,Male child) , Henry(6 years old ,Male
child) ,Irene(10 years old ,Female child) ,and Olivia(3 years old ,Female
child).
We saw that in each member has dierent characters and behaviors.
So we will explain in the next following paragraph.

He has leadership of his family. He
help every member in his family and
want to be a good and strong father to
work everyday. He always eat rice every
day to have energy for work and do
activities. For his hobby, he like to playing
with his children and go to the park and
spend his time with his children and his
wife.

too. Irene like to do worked so much. However,

books to her for birthday present. She like to eat

energy for her day.

Olivia, she was a playful girl, she like to

Drop of poverty but still poor

Although Cambodia has been growing rapidly over the past few years, it
remains one of the poorest countries in East Asia because of the following
reasons.

The number of poor people are almost 4.8 million, and 90per cent of them
are in rural areas, and most of them depend on agriculture for their
livelihood, but at least 12per cent of poor people are landless. Small-scale
farmers practice agriculture at the subsistence level, using traditional
methods, and productivity is low. Moreover, two thirds of the country's
1.6million rural households face seasonal food shortages each year. Rice
alone accounts for as much as 30per cent of household expenditures. Rural
people are constantly looking for work or other income-generating
activities, which are mainly temporary and poorly paid.

Increasing rice prices, increased rice production,

having the greater road access for farmers to markets
and market information through many ways such as
mobile phones, improved irrigation, and liberal
undistorted agricultural market all have great
contribution to poverty reduction which result in the
decrease in poverty rate in rural Cambodia.
Unfortunately, even though the poverty rate in
Cambodia has dropped rapidly from the report from a
new World Bank Poverty Assessment Report, the
poverty rate more than halved, from 53% (2004) to
20.5% (2011). Today, approximately two out of 10
Cambodians are poor, compared with five out of 10 in
2004,however, there is still a chance that they can get
back to poverty again like it reported that Poverty
has fallen, yet many Cambodians are still at risk of
slipping back into poverty, new report finds.

P overty has aected the lives of people

in rural Cambodia in several ways, and
there are many groups who got aected,
and women is the main group. Women in
particular do not have equal access to
education, paid employment and land
ownership and other property rights. For
many women, reproductive health
services are inadequate or non-existent.
Many women had to assume the
responsibility of heading their households
after male family members were killed in
conflict.

Moreover, the lives of Cambodias poorest

people are isolated. They live in remote
villages, far from basic social services and
facilities. Many have to travel more than
5km to reach a health clinic, and still
others live more than 5km from the
nearest road.
Health problem is another problem cause
by poverty. Rural poverty and lack of
opportunity in rural areas have
contributed to the spread of HIV AIDS, as
young women migrate to urban factories
and become sex slaves in neighbouring
countries. Although HIV prevalence rates
have shown a decrease, the impact of the
infection continues to be strong.
As we can see, there are many impacts
caused by poverty to the lives of people
in rural Cambodia.
There are many reasons why the
concept of choice is important to the
study of economics. Because the study
of economics is to deal or to manage
the limited resources with the unlimited
needs of people without having the
problem of shortage, the concept of
choice is important factor. Decision
making is one of the most important
things to do business. When we have to
do any decision, we have to chose it
from many of them, and try to chose
the best choice to avoid facing the
problem that can happen because of the
decision. And, sometimes, we have to
trade-os the decisions to save the
better part and lose some part.
