this case and 5.71V on the other end of R6 to ground. It is a small resistor so it is
understandable as voltage across it should be low which is almost 0.4 volts.

In the 2nd circuit, voltage at one end of R2 to ground is 8.1V and at the other end to
the ground it is 8.0V. At the voltage regulator input you get 8.0 volts and 5.5V at the
output.
