Q13: Please comment on the teacher candidate's overall performance in the area of professional knowledge.
Mrs. Witham was not familiar with the math and science curriculum at the beginning of this placement. However, she
went above and beyond to sure she was an expert in the subject areas before she taught it to be sure that she was
teaching the students the correct information at all times. She always considered what the kids needed to know for the
SOLs. Mrs. Witham attended all math and science collaborations to discuss the objectives and SOLs. She actively
participated in all meetings and asked questions to better her instruction.

All of Mrs. Witham's lesson plans were aligned the Virginia Beach Objectives and the Virginal SOLs. Mrs. Witham was
always receptive to feedback from cooperating teacher regarding her lesson plans and adapted them as needed. One
area that Mrs. Witham and I worked on is planning for transitions within a lesson. Mrs. Witham was very receptive to
feedback and suggestions and implemented her lessons well. Mrs. Witham started using a timer during her lessons
early on as a way to keep her lessons on track and to the point.

Mrs. Witham did a great job differentiating to meet the needs of all students. She implemented the use of reminder
cards when teaching metric conversions in small groups. Mrs. Witham used the promethean board, videos,
manipulatives and instructional technology in her lessons. Occasionally, when giving direct, whole group instruction,
Mrs. Witham lost the attention of most students due to either focusing on behavior of specific students or the lesson
went on for too long.

Mrs. Witham did a great job grading assessments and being very thorough with feedback for the students, but also
reflection on her lesson. Mrs. Witham used the assessment data to either reteach a lesson or to pull a small group of
students to remediate. She gave formative and summative assessments.

Mrs. Witham did a wonderful job of establishing good relationships with all students and was very receptive to their
needs and responses. Mrs. Witham used the established classroom routines and procedures put in place by the
classroom teacher. One area that Mrs. Witham is working to improve is establishing clear expectations for students.
This includes transitions and directions.

Mrs. Witham was consistently working to improve upon her performance. She was extremely receptive to feedback and
did an outstanding job at persona reflection. She attended all teacher meetings and collaborated with teachers and
specialists.
