My name is Kyla Wright, and I am the new choral director at our school. I
am excited to welcome your family to our choral program!

Singing in a choral ensemble is one of the most rewarding and enjoyable

experiences that our school can oer your child. Music is an essential
part of the human condition, and developing your students musical
intelligence will benefit him or her greatly.

In a culture where academic expectations run higher and higher each year, and panic over grades,
exams, and transcripts sets in, choir is an escape from the fast track. In choir class, students have the
space to discover their passions, the freedom to gain independence, and a nurturing environment
where they can fail and bounce back. As your child strives towards excellence in music, he or she will
also grow as a person this year through the study of vocal music.

Understand that your childs music experience in choir is just as important as any other subject. Music
is not an extra-curricular; it is a core subject, and it should be approached in that light. Your childs
experience in choir will be challenging and rigorous, and it will stretch your child to become better in
all areas. At-home practice should be treated as a part of your childs homework routine. When taught
well and supported with at-home practice, the art of singing develops strength of character and
communication skills. The study of vocal music will also help your student develop a strong work ethic
and a disciplined attitude. In addition to musical accomplishments, your students will learn to:

Be patient and persistent with dicult tasks.

Delay gratification by working towards a better sound.
Develop curiosity, problem solve, and cultivate grit.

All children are capable of participating in and enjoying music with a little support. Treat music as a
long-term commitment from the start. Mindset is of utmost importance in music making, and it has a
direct eect on success. It is the parents role to set the tone on the first day by encouraging their child
to stick with music; by keeping your child in music, you are showing your support of the arts as an
integral part of education at our school. Make the decision to invest in your childs music education for
at least a few years , and you will see incredible progress as a result. Spend five to ten minutes a night
helping your child create a practice routine, and you will minimize frustrations.

I am not only passionate about fostering the next generation of musicians and music lovers, but I am
also excited to get to know your child and help him or her take the next step in his or her educational
journey. I will work to arm your child with the tools to become a critical thinker and a lifelong lover of
learning. Your role in assisting at-home practice and making a long-term commitment to our program
will ensure that your child receives the best education that our school has to oer. Please join me in
what I know will be a transformative experience for you child this year.
