ABSTRACT
In this paper, a multimodal programme for smoking cessation is presented
in detail. This programme included the following treatment procedures : nico -
tine fading guidelines, stimuli control, cognitive reestructuring, relapse preven -
tion, the use of hypnotic suggestion for the improvement of aversive conditio -
ning, and stress management, applied to a smoker patient during after treat -
ment five week period, with four sessions follow-up : 1 month, 3 months, 6
months, and 12 months. The results show a progressive decrease in the con -
suming rate (cigarrettes per day) froh the first treatment session. At the end of
the 5-sessions programme, the patient stopped smoking and she remained
abstinent during a twelve-month follow-up.
