COMPUTER SYSTEM SERVICING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

CHAPTER 1

A. INTRODUCTION:

About two hundred years before, the word "computer" started to appear in the dictionary. Some people even didn't

know what is a computer. However, most of the people today not just knowing what is a computer, but understand how to use

a computer. Therefore, computer become more and more popular and important to our society.

In working the computer, hazards and dangers can occur. In the mean time, computers should be handled safely and

carefully.

Safe working conditions help prevent injury to people and damage to computer equipment. A safe workspace is

clean, organized, and properly lighted. Everyone must understand and follow safety procedures to avoid accident.
B. GOAL OF THE STUDY:

To know the different kind of Safety Precautions to avoid accident.

A few warnings and reminders before repairing a system unit to keep the unit and

yourself safe.

To know the importance of Safety Precautions in repairing a system unit.

The computer professionals and users should be aware of safety precaution to be

taken when using the computer. To avoid health problems and accidents in the

computer room the following safety measure should be considered.

C. IMPORTANCE OF STUDY:

Knowing about computer health and safety is essential so that potential

injuries or strains can be avoided. Regular assessments need to be carried out by

those who use a computer.

In the office workplace it is essential that all workers have a sound knowledge

of computer health and safety. If workers have sufficient knowledge of computer

health and safety however, they will know how to make efficient use of their

computer and work environment and thus prevent any potential injuries occurring.

CHAPTER 2
REVIEW OF LITERATURE

10 Occupational Health and Safety Procedure (OHS) this is about Safety and Anti-Static

Rules

1. When possible, try to avoid working in carpeted areas. Carpeting greatly increases static buildup within

your body.

2. Personal protective equipment are correctly used.

3. Hazard/risks in the workplace and their corresponding indicators are identified to minimize or

eliminate risk to co-workers, workplace and environment.

4. Always handle electronic components by a non-conducting (non-metallic) edge. Don't touch the pins or

other connectors.

5. Read and follow instructions on the manual carefully.

6. Do not eat, drink or smoke while assembling the computer

7. When working on a computer avoid places that are damp, subject to temperature extremes, dirty, or

dusty.

8. The table should be clean and non-metallic to avoid short circuits

9. Always disconnect a computer from the AC power and from any powered peripherals while you are

working on it.

10. Never plug an ATX power supply into AC power while adding and connecting cards of motherboard.
Computer Hardware Servicing Safety and Precautions

TESDA NC II Computer Servicing also requires to learn about the Computer Hardware Servicing

Safety and Precautions. The only danger to you in most of these devices is the AC line connection. Before

you plug in the unit with any covers removed, make note and cover up any exposed AC line connections.

The rest of the circuitry is low voltage and while you can destroy your equipment by your actions, you

should be fairly safe. The following Safety Guidelines are included for your survival when working on

line connected or high voltage equipment.

Don't work alone - in the event of an emergency another person's presence may be essential.

Always keep one hand in your pocket when anywhere around a powered line-connected or highvoltage

system.

Wear rubber bottom shoes or sneakers.

Don't wear any jewellery or other materials that could accidentally contact circuitry and

conductcurrent, or get caught in moving parts. (Bracelets, long necklaces)

Don't attempt repair work when you are tired. Not only will you be more careless, but your primary

diagnostic tool - deductive reasoning - will not be operating at full capacity.

Finally, never assume anything without checking it out for yourself! Don't take shortcuts!
Computer Lab Safety Rules for Protecting Equipment

Do not bring any food or drinks near the machine.

Turn off the machine once you are done using it.

Do not plug in external devices without scanning them for computer viruses.

Ensure that the temperature in the room stays cool, since there are a lot of machines inside a lab as these

can overheat easily.

This is one of the many ways of ensuring computer safety.

Try not to touch any of the circuit boards and power sockets when a device is connected to them and

switched on.

Always maintain an extra copy of all your important data files.

CHAPTER 3
A. DESIGN AND METHOD OF A RESEARCH:

This study uses a descriptive methodology of a research. The researchers had chosen to use a Survey

Research Design that uses a questionnaire or interviewing a person to collect datas or information. The

researchers believe that it is the only way to collect data in a very short span of time. In making our

survey, we interviewed a practitioner in Carcar City, Cebu last November 14, 2016.

B. METHODOLOGY:

We asked 3 questions to the practitioner about the different safety precautions that he apply everytime

he repairs a system unit. We, only observe another practitioner and we took him a video in doing his job

(repairing a system unit).

C. RESPONDENTS:

The chosen respondents of the group are the technician or practitioner of ICLICK Solution in Carcar

City, Cebu.

D. TREATMENT OF THE RESEARCH:

This research is about the importance nof applying different safety precautions in

repairing a system unit. This research needs a fact information or datas that had been collected

through the persons we interviewed.
