required to maximize IOT adoption. Volume of scale will be an added cost advantage. Specifically, good internet
connectivity is for having an effective Digital India, Make in India, IoT, and Industrial IoT implementation.
Skilling and development of human resources with support from Industry Associations and Government Bodies
etc. should be enabled in the space of IOT.
Drive awareness in decision makers (CEO/CFO level) about IOT and its impact within public and private manufac-
turing enterprises as it will help drive faster adoption and enable the enterprises to reap benefits over longer term.
Make Investments in small pilot projects that can really make a difference and create success stories to engage
more stakeholders.
Frame standardized security architecture as the IOT/devices were missed out when carrying out pilot studies.
There should be deeper clarity in manufacturing sector as we need to bring cyber security planning, as IoT will
be connected to the internet areas device (IoT) and data (people).

CONCLUDING REMARKS BY TRACK CHAIR

Though all of us had a traditional manufacturing industry mindset, we felt that next big change in manufacturing is IoT
from the conventional manufacturing, automation in manufacturing compared to other industries is far ahead. The
deployment of IoT , one should adopt big bang approach than step by step deployment approach keeping total solution
perspective by adopting a prototyping modelling wherever possible so that the investments are protected and also the
IoT deployment delivers the desired optimum value. Also, one should remember that the business model will go
completely transformational with service as ultimate product, not a by-product, and would be the great importance in
the digital era., this once again require greater mindset change from traditional supply focused delivery model to
completely transform service oriented business model which manufacturing industry yet to experience. - Prakash

IOT IN
1. The strategy to merge the new data with already existing one is of prime importance. B2C marketing is a challenge as
when compared with B2B

RETAIL 2. Installing smart meters into villages will prevent theft and enable prepaid payments. In the given constraints, IoT should
come as a main stream in India looking at the qualitative and quantitative factors.
3. With the up-coming new technology, people need to be firstly trained which will result in better ROI. One of the
operational challenges is the inconsistency of the skill set of the service engineers when they move from one location
to another.
4. Drive value from data and engagement to the customer. There is a CPO requirement in the ecosystem to make value
of that data and help user with their personal data. Also the Network stabilization across India 24*7 will lead to better
data storage and analytics.
5. All the members were of the view that retail is about customer experience. If we drive for profit we will lose customer.
Digitization is important to get the post sales experience and customer satisfaction. Also digital connectivity and
standardization is required at various levels.
TRACK SUMMARY
The Retail track started with welcome note by Puneet Bhatia, IoT Expert & Management Consultant giving a short
TRACK CHAIR introduction on consumer and retail industries which have been one of the fastest adopters of IoT. He gave instances of

IoT Expert & Management ment of edge data analytics in all elements.
Subsequent to that Abhishek Sharma, chief marketing ofcer GO Qii, started as keynote speaker on IoT for Integrated
Communities and Smart living. He talked on the importance of data and its proper interpretation. Various segments where
IoT can play an important role are the operational part and promoting personalized marketing. He continued sharing
about Better shopping experience and smarter operations and concluded on value drivers i.e. nothing works in isolation
as it is important to create, communicate, aggregate, analyze and act.
KEY RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Strategize and build data efficiency, create value for customer rather than to target them, monetize and create better
experience for the users are three important aspects for IoT Retail.
2. IoT can have its impact in retail by smart shelves, traceability, loss prevention, Just in time (JIT) promotion, customer
flow.
3. Optimal usage of stock and pricing aids to minimalize operational costs and maximize revenue
4. Stabilization of the network across India without any interruption is the priority.
5. Technology needs to be elastic as the data comes with an expiry date not because of the value of the data but because
of the inability to action on what the sensor generates

CONCLUDING REMARKS BY TRACK CHAIR

IoT is a game changer whichever way one looks at it. Through increasing the number of
connections (people and machines), leveraging big data analytics and connecting people in new
ways, IoT creates that many more value generation possibilities which could be in form of better
customer experience, operational efficiency, increased safety & compliance hence resulting in
increased revenues, reduced costs etc. Retailing being traditionally a low margin and cash
intensive business can leverage transformational effects of IoT in combination with other digital
trends e.g. virtual reality, collaboration, big data, mobility etc. IET India IoT Congress brought IoT
innovations in the retail space wearables, drones, in-store video analytics etc. Hence IoT
Congress served as a launch platform for for retailers and suppliers of IoT technologies to
evaluate IoT as a technology trend with a disruptive potential in retail vertical. I am quite sure, in
the future IET IoT Congress, there will be a number of successful retailers and technology
companies presenting the success stories within the retail domain. - Puneet Bhatia, IoT Expert &
