(i)MuslimsmustfollowtheteachingsofIslam.Someanswerscouldgoabitfurthertoshow
abasicawarenessofthisteaching,addingthattrueMuslimsareloyaltoGod,theQuran
andtheProphet.GoodanswerswillgiveaninsightintotheelementsoftheHadithby
statingthatMuslimsmustbeloyaltothebasicteachingsofIslamandsincerelyfollow
theFivePillarswhilstbeingsensitivetotheneedsofotherpeopleandbybeingloyal
membersofthecommunity.
(ii)InthisHadiththeemphasisisonearningonesownlivingthroughhardwork.Thebetter

(iv)MuslimscangotoparadisewiththeProphetiftheydogoodisthesimpleteachingof
thisHadith.Someanswerswillfocusontheneedtocareforchildreninorderfor
Muslimstogotoparadise.TheProphetparticularlyrecommendedthegooddeedof
lookingafterorphansandasanorphanhimselfheespeciallyrecommendedMuslimsto
carefororphans.

(b)Actions
(i)MuslimscanputtheteachingsofthisHadithintoactionbybeingobedienttoIslam.They
shouldtrytoobeytheQuranandtheProphetintheirdailylives.Muslimsshouldnot
onlybasetheirpersonallivesontheteachingsofIslambutshouldacttomaintainthe
goodofsociety.SincerityisthemostimportantaspectinallthingsthataMuslimdoes
publiclyorprivatelyandthebetteranswerswillfocusonit.
(ii)AMuslimshouldsupporthimselfandhisfamilythroughhisownhardwork.More
thoughtfulanswerswillhighlightthepointthatitisbettertolivewithinonesmeans,even
ifitishumbly,thantoearnunlawfullyoronthehandoutsofothers.Thisnotonly
promotesselfsufficiencywhichisgoodfortheindividualbutitisalsogoodforsociety.
(iii)Muslimsshouldfightagainstevil.Theyshouldfightevilhowevertheycan,withtheir
handsorvoicesorthoughts.Thefightagainstevilinvolvesmanymethodsandmust
neverceaseandeverymeansofstoppingitshouldbeemployed.
(iv)Muslimsmustlookafterorphans.Thetaskofcaringfororphansisparticularlyrewarded.
TheteachingofthisHadithencouragesMuslimstocareforthevulnerable.IfMuslims
respecttheProphettheywillfollowhisteachingandtakespecialcareofthoseinneed
forwhichtheywillberewarded.

putintoaction.Inansweringthisquestiontherewasalotofoverlapbetweenpart(a)and
(b).CandidatescouldapplytheteachingtothelivesofMuslimsandgiveanexamplein
answeringpart(b)ofthequestion.However,examplesgivenshouldbesensible.Thisyear,

(a)(i)TheteachingofthisHadithisthatMuslimsmustalwaysbegentletoothersandcause

actfairlywhentheygovern.TheHadithfocusesonMuslimleadershipbeinghelpfulto

Hadithsteaching.

(iii)MuslimsmusthavefaithintheirheartthisistheprimaryteachingofthisHadith.Itis
havingthisfaithwhichwillleadallMuslimstoparadisewhereaspridewillonlyleadto
hell.Moredevelopedanswerswillhighlightthepointthatatinyamountoffaithcanlead
toparadiseandatinyamountofpridecanleadtohell.Itisthisimportantdifference
betweenfaithandpridethatMuslimsmustaccept.
(iv)ThisHadithshowsthecriteriaonthebasisofwhichAllahjudgesaperson.Allahisnot
interestedinaperson'swealthbutwithwhatisinhisheart.Someanswersmaygoonto
saythatAllahisnotinterestedinwhatapersonhasgainedbutinhowheacts.Good
answerswilldiscusshowatrueMuslimisknownbyhisconductandnotbyoutward
appearancesandthisisthecriterionoftruefaith.

(b)(i)MuslimscanputtheteachingofthisHadithintopracticebybeinggentletowardsothers
andbymakingthemrejoiceduetotheiractionstowardsthem.Alsotheneedfora

importantteachingofthisHadith.

(iii)Muslimsmusthavefaithintheirhearts.Theymustincreasetheirfaithandresistpride,A
soundunderstandingofhowtoputtheteachingsofthisHadithintoactioncanbeshown
bythecandidatesbyhighlightingthefactthatMuslimsmustfollowtheteachingsofIslam
closelyandshouldrelyupontheguidancethatIslamteachesratherthanupon
closelyandshouldrelyupontheguidancethatIslamteachesratherthanupon
themselves.

possessions.GoodanswerswillexplainthattheteachingofthisHadithcanbeputinto

Thisquestionwaswellansweredbyagoodmajorityofthecandidates.Whenanswering
Hadith(i)somewereevenabletodiscussitsdeeperteaching,thegoodcandidateswrote
abouthowfinalauthoritylieswithAllahandisgivenfromHimtotherulersasatrust.Some
wentontoastutelystatethatinspeakingtoAbuMusaandMuadhIbnJabaltheProphet
wasinrealityaddressingrulersinyearstocomeandleavingamessageforthemasboth
themenmentionedintheHadithwerepiouscompanionsoftheProphetandwelltrainedby
himintheartofgovernance.However,theteachinginthethirdHadithwasnottooclearto
thecandidates.Manychosetoattemptitbutfewwereabletobringoutthesalientpointof
thisHadithwhichis
thatwhenapersonembracesIslamhesubmitstothewillofAllahandshunsallpride.
Hence,faithandpridecannotcoexistinatrueMuslim.InHadith(iv)themajorityofthe
candidatesfocusedonjustintention.IntentionisanimportantelementofthisHadithbutnot
theonlyelementfordiscussion.Inpart(b)candidatese.g.couldhavediscussedhow
Muslimsshouldbeinterestedingoodconductandnotinpossessions.Theycouldhave
givenexamplesofactingwithsincerity.Onthewholethiswasawellansweredquestion.
Therewassomeoverlapbetweenparts(a)and(b)answers.Candidatesshouldbe
encouragedtothinkforthemselvesandexpresstheirownopinionsastohowtheycanput
theteachingsoftheHadiththeyhavestudiedintopractice.Eachanswercanthereforebe

partofaMuslimsfaithistoworkforthegoodofothers.
(ii)IslamisaverysimplereligionandtogainAllahspleasureandreachparadiseonehas
tosimplyfollowthebasicprinciplesofIslam.SomeanswersmaywellstatethatAllah
haslaiddownclearrulesaboutwhatislawfulandunlawfulandhowHeexpectsmanto
beobedienttoHim.ByfollowingtheseruleswecangainAllahspleasureandthus
paradiseandthisiswhattheProphetconfirmed.CandidatescouldgiveotherHadithsto
supportthisone.
(iii)AnswerscouldsimplystatethatthebelieverwhoworkstogetthepleasureofAllahis
thebest.However,wecanonlybetruebelieversbyfollowingAllahscommandments
andbyusingourpersonandpossessionstostriveinthewayofAllah.GoodMuslims
mustusetheirselfandwealthinAllahsway,thesearesomeoftheteachingsofthis
Hadith.
(iv)MercyandkindnessareintegraltoIslamandaMuslimsconducttowardsothers
influenceshistreatmentbyGod.GoodanswerscouldelaboratebysayingthatMuslims
musttreatothersastheywouldwantAllahtotreatthemandsupporttheiranswers
perhapswithexamplesfromtheProphetslifeshowingmercyandforgiveness.

(b)(i)Muslimsshouldalwaysrespondtotheneedofothers.Candidatescouldgoontostate
thatcareforothersisaconstituentpartoffaithforwhichMuslimswillberewarded.
ConcernforotherscanberegardedasasignofsinceritytotheteachingsofIslam.
(ii)MuslimscanattainparadisebybeingobedienttoAllah.Muslimsbesidesfollowingthe
pillarsofIslam,mustbeconsciousofwhatisallowedandnotallowedinIslamatall
timese.g.theyshouldbefairintrading,nottakeribaetc.Examplesorquotesfromthe
Qurancouldbegiventosupporttheanswers.
(iii)AsimpleanswerwouldbethatMuslimsmustfollowthepillarsofIslam.Afuller

actjustlybetweentwopeopleisacharitytohelpamanwithhismount,lifting
himontoitorhoistinguphisbelongingsontoitisacharityagoodwordisa

fromtheroadisacharity.

(iv)TheMessengerofAllah(mayAllahblesshimandgivehimpeace)sentAbuMusa
andMu'adhibnJabaltoYaman,andhesenteachofthemtogovernapart.Then
hesaid:'Begentleanddonotbehard,andcauserejoicinganddonotalienate'.

1(a)(i)ThemainteachingofthisHadithisthatIslamisareligionwhichlaysimmensefocus
on
socialresponsibility.CandidatescansimplystatethatMuslimsshouldtakecareofthe
needsoftheirfellowbeingsandthatsmalleverydayactsofkindnesscarrytherewardof
charity.ThebetteranswerswillpointoutthatthetermcharityinIslamisnotrestrictedto
simplyfulfillingthematerialneedsofotherpeople.

(ii)TheteachingofthisHadith,somecandidatesmaysay,isthataMuslimstreatmentof
othersinfluencesGod'streatmenttowardsthem.Thisisabasicanswer,however,good
answerswillhighlightthepointthatkindnessandmercyareintegraltoIslamandto
deserveGod'smercyMuslimsmustbekindtohiscreation.

(iii)Caringfortheneedsofothers,especiallythoseinmostneed,isanexpressionoftrue
faith.Islamstronglypromotestheconceptsofsocialandeconomicwelfareinsociety.
Someanswerscouldwelldiscussthebroadermeaningofibadahwhichincludesthe
careofothers.

(iv)UltimateauthoritylieswithGodandisgiventoaruler,parent,teacheretcasatrustfrom
Him.Themorethoughtfulanswersmaywelldiscussthispoint.Othersmightfocuson
themoreobviousteachingofthisHadiththatMuslimleadershipshouldneverbeby
forcebutbyencouragement.OtherHadithscouldbequotedtosupporttheteachingof
thisHadith.

(b)(i)Arangeofanswerscouldbegiven.Fromgreetingotherswithasmile,toremoving
obstaclesfromthepathofsomeone,towalkingtothemosquetoofferprayerscanallbe
deemedasactsofcharityandwaysinwhichtheteachingofthisparticularHadithisput
intoaction.CandidatescouldgiveexamplesfromtheirownlivesorthelivesofMuslims
andgivetheirownviews.Allvalidresponsesmustbecredited.

(ii)BypractisingbrotherhoodMuslimscanputtheteachingofthisHadithintoaction.Some
couldgoontoelaborateandgiveexamplesofhowbrotherhoodcouldbepractised.
ExamplesfromtheProphet'slifecanalsobegiven.Candidatescangiveexamplesfrom

musthelpothersinneed.Candidatescansubstantiatetheiranswersbygiving
examples.

(iv)Muslimgovernmentsshouldalwaysbefairintheiractionsandshouldpositivelyleadthe
community.SomecandidatescouldbringoutthewidermeaningofthisHadithbysaying
thatallthoseinapositionofresponsibilitytowardsothersshouldbekindandthoughtful
towardsthosetheyareresponsiblefor.Candidatescouldgiveexamplesheretosupport
theiranswersandallvalidresponsesshouldbecreditedwheredeserved.

allthethingstheybelieveanddo.AtrueMuslimisonewhoisloyaltoGod,theprophet
andtheQuran.DevelopedanswerscouldsaythatMuslimsmustbeloyaltothebasic
teachingsofIslamandfollowthefivepillarswhilstbeingsensitivetotheneedsofothers
teachingsofIslamandfollowthefivepillarswhilstbeingsensitivetotheneedsofothers
andbybeingloyalmembersofthecommunity.

(ii)IslamrequiresMuslimstoactlikebrotherstoeachother.Caringfortheneedsofothers
especiallyofthosewhoareinmostneedisanexpressionofgenuinefaith.Islam
promotestheconceptsofsocialandeconomicwelfareinsocietyandthebetteranswers
maywelldiscussthewidermeaningoftheHadith,worshippingAllahincludescareof
others.

(iii)MercyandkindnessareintegraltoIslam.AMuslimsconducttowardsothersinfluences
Allahstreatmenttowardshim.TodeserveAllahsmercyMuslimsmustbemercifultoHis
creation.ThisistheimportantteachingofthisHadith.

(iv)ThisHadithemphasisesMuslimbrotherhoodandunity.Islamisareligionofequalityand
theteachingofthisHadithstrikesattherootofalldifferencesbetweenmankindand
drawsattentiontothefactthatallMuslimsarebondedtogetherbytheirfaithandthatis
whatmakesthemafraternity.

(b)(i)MuslimsmustbeobedienttotheteachingsofIslambyobeyingtheQuranand
following
thesunnaoftheProphetintheirdailylife.Theyshouldalsostrivetomaintainthegood
ofsociety.SincerityisanimportantaspectinallthingsaMuslimdoes,privatelyor
publiclyandsomeanswerscouldwellfocusonit.

(ii)TheteachingsofthisHadithcanbeputintoactionbyMuslimsbeingreadyandwillingto
helpthoseinneed.Providingresourcestothepoor,helpingwithchildrenseducationby
supportingthevariouseducationalcharities,etcareafewexamplesthatcanbecited.
GoodactscanbecomparedtofightingajihadorpracticingthepillarsofIslamwhich
earnMuslimsAllahspleasure.

(iii)Allbelieversarepartofthesamecommunityandshouldpracticebrotherhood.The
prophetisthebestexampleforMuslimstofollowheshowedmercytohisworst
enemies.Examplescanbegivenbythecandidateinansweringthispartfromtheir
experiencesorfromexperienceofMuslimstheyknoworhaveheardabout.

(iv)MuslimsshouldhelpotherMuslimsmorallyorfinanciallywhenevertheirhelpisrequired.
ExamplescouldbegivenofAfghanrefugeesbeinglookedafterinPakistanortheaid
providedtovictimsofnaturaldisastersforexample.
