Describe the instructional activities that will occur prior to the SRS activity and how you will
introduce the SRS activity:
Prior to this activity the students should have already had a basic introduction to Genetics, Punnett Squares,
and the specific terms that are covered in this quiz. Ideally they will have already gone through the
Interactive Whiteboard lesson on these concepts. This quiz can be used as a concept check for the
introduction to this unit to check for student understanding before we move on to chromosomes. Before
students take this quiz they will have the opportunity to watch the embedded video in the lesson as a
refresher to some of the terms.
Describe the purpose of the SRS activity (check all that apply):
Assess Prior Knowledge Anticipatory Set (Create Interest in a Topic) To Illuminate Common
Misconceptions Formative Assessment of Content Knowledge (for purposes of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) Summative Assessment of Content Knowledge Test Preparation
Survey/Poll Discussion Starter Homework Collection Other
Additional explanation of purpose (optional):
Type of session: Teacher-Paced Student-Paced
Identification of students:
Students will log-in so their individual scores will be available to you after the session
SRS activity will be anonymous
Briefly describe what will happen during the SRS activity
During this lesson students will begin by watching a video from TedEd on Punnett Squares and Gregor
Mendel. I will have each of the students log in using either their names or ID numbers. They will complete
the 8 questions. The first 5 questions will have 20-seconds each and the last 3 questions will be 30-seconds.
The students will have more time on the last 3 questions because they are slightly harder than the first 5.

Once the students complete the questions I will be able to access the results. This can be done through
Kahoot! Directly. I will use that information to determine if the students understand the material.
Depending on students responses we can either move on to other concepts or send more time on the
concepts students are struggling with.
