ALM-20228 GE Link Between GE Switching Board and Service Board

Faulty
Description

The SCU board is the OM administrative center and the MAC switching center of a subrack. The SCU
board is connected to the service board through GE links. This alarm is generated when the SCU board
or the service board detects that a GE link between the SCU board and the service board is faulty.

Parameters

Name Meaning

Subrack No. Number of the subrack where this alarm is generated

Slot No. Number of the slot where this alarm is generated

Subsystem No. Number of the subsystem where this alarm is generated

Backplane GE No. Number of the faulty GE link on the backplane

Peer Board Slot Number of the slot where the peer board corresponding to the faulty GE link is
No. located

Impact on System

The GE links between the SCU board and the service board form a trunk group. When a GE link is faulty,
the services carried on the GE link are distributed to other GE links. Thus, the services are not affected.

System Actions

The system automatically forbids the port corresponding to the faulty GE link. The port can be allowed
only when the GE link recovers. When the port is forbidden, the services carried by the faulty link are
distributed to other links in the trunk group.

Possible Causes
When the board is loosely connected to the backplane, the GE link is faulty.
When the local board or the peer board is abnormal.
The hardware of the board is faulty.
The hardware of the backplane is faulty.

Handling Procedure

1. Securely insert the peer board and the local board.

a. Securely insert the peer board, and then check whether the alarm is cleared.
YES=>The alarm is cleared. The alarm handling is complete.
NO=>The alarm persists. Go to step b.
b. Securely insert the local board, and then check whether the alarm is cleared.

NO=>The alarm persists. Go to step 4.
4. On the alarm console, check whether the alarm is also generated on the other boards in the
subrack. If the alarm is caused by faults on the backplane, the alarm is also generated on the
other boards in the same subrack.
YES=>The alarm is generated. Go to step 5.
NO=>The alarm is not generated. Contact Huawei Customer Service Center.
