SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
El Tiempo Presente Simple

El presente simple, tambin llamado del indicativo, es el tiempo verbal ms


simple del ingls. Se suele utilizar para hablar sobre hechos que constituyen
hbitos o costumbres.

Se forma con la forma base del verbo del infinitivo. Este infinitivo consta de dos
partculas: to y la forma base del verbo, as, por ejemplo, to eat es un infinitivo
que significa comer.

El Presente Simple es un tiempo verbal
que se utiliza para describir acciones
habituales que suceden con cierta frecuencia y no hace referencia a si est ocurriendo
en el momento actual.

I play tennis. Yo juego al tenis.


(Hace mencin de un deporte que realizo cotidianamente y que no necesariamente lo
estoy jugando en este momento).

He works in an office. l trabaja en una oficina.


(Se refiere al trabajo que desarrolla una persona frecuentemente).

They travel to Madrid. Ellos viajan a Madrid.


(Habla de un viaje que se repite a diario, aunque el sujeto no lo est realizando ahora).

Tambin usamos el presente simple para hablar de hbitos; en este caso, en la oracin
suele aparecer expresiones de frecuencia, como USUALLY o ALWAYS.

We usually play tennis. -> Nosotros jugamos al tenis ocasionalmente.


You always study. -> Ustedes estudian siempre.

Observe que en el modo afirmativo, en la 3 persona del singular, se le aade una S


al verbo.

Reglas Ortogrficas Para La 3 Persona Del Singular

Como regla general, a la forma verbal de la 3 persona del singular se le aade s; no


obstante, existen unas cuantas reglas para una serie de formas verbales que son
especiales:

1.- Cuando el verbo termina en CH, SH, X, SS, se agrega ES.


Watch -> Watches (mirar) Dash -> Dashes (arrojar)Fix -> Fixes (arreglar)

2.- Cuando el verbo acaba en O, tambin se aade ES:


go -> goes (ir) do -> does (hacer)

3.- Cuando el verbo acaba en Y precedida de consonante, tenemos que cambiar la Y


por i, para a continuacin aadir ES:
fly -> flies (volar) study -> studies (estudiar)

Negative Form

Debemos tener en cuenta que tanto para la forma negativa como para la interrogativa,
se utiliza el auxiliar DO y la forma DOES para la tercera persona del singular.
Si queremos construir una oracin en presente simple, en forma negativa es necesario
seguir la siguiente estructura:

Interrogative Form:

La estructura para la forma interrogativa cambia en la posicin del auxiliar, ubicndose


antes del sujeto:

and pollution of the city. We often walk for about one-half hour
and then return to our home. I always take my bus after our

Adverbios de frecuencia

Los adverbios de frecuencia se utilizan para definir la periodicidad con que se realiza
una actividad determinada. Se usan habitualmente con el presente simple. Ejemplo:

I always go to sleep early Siempre voy a dormir temprano.


You never listen to her Nunca la escuchas.

Los adverbios de frecuencia ms usados son:

Always -Siempre
Usually -Habitualmente
Often -A menudo
Frequently - Frecuentemente
Sometimes -A veces
Seldom - Casi nunca
Never -Nunca

Dnde se colocan los Adverbios de Frecuencia?

En espaol podemos organizar la estructura sintctica de la frase (el orden de las


palabras) de una manera ms flexible que en ingls. En el caso de los adverbios, su
posicin depender del verbo al que acompae.

Con el verbo TO BE

1) El adverbio va siempre detrs del verbo si la frase es afirmativa o negativa:


I am always happy Siempre estoy feliz.
He isnt usually bored Normalmente no est aburrido / No suele estar
aburrido.

2) Si es una pregunta, el adverbio ira detrs del sujeto


Are you sometimes sad? A veces ests triste?

Con verbos en Presente Simple

1) Si la oracin es afirmativa o interrogativa, el adverbio ir entre el sujeto y el verbo


principal:
I hardly ever drink beer Casi nunca bebo cerveza
Does she often snore at night? Ronca (ella) a menudo de noche?

2) Ten en cuenta que en las negaciones, el adverbio va entre el verbo auxiliar y el


verbo principal:
I dont often go to visit my grandmother No voy a visitar a mi abuela a
menudo

Preguntar por la frecuencia

Si quieres preguntarle a alguien con qu frecuencia hace una cosa o la otra, utilizas el
pronombre interrogativo how seguido del adverbio often:

How often do you go to Bogota? Con qu frecuencia vas a Bogot?


I go to Bogot twice a month. Voy a Menorca dos veces al mes.

En ingls la palabra para clima es 'weather' o 'climate'. Weather es el estado del clima
en un momento dado, como lluvia, asoleado, huracn, etc. Climate es el clima en
general en una regin, como el clima desrtico, hmedo, polar, etc.

Pronombres Objetos

Son pronombres que reciben la accin del verbo. Vienen despus del verbo o despus
de una preposicin.

Despus de un verbo: I call her every day.


Le llamo (a ella) todos los das.

Despus de una preposicin: The present is for her.


El regalo es para ella.

Debes tener en cuenta que existen muchas palabras similares en ingls. Es importante
ir viendo las diferencias y conociendo este tipo de palabras bsicas.

Maria buys that magazine. - Mara compra esa revista.

I buy it for her. - (Yo) la compro para ella.

* En el segundo ejemplo vemos que 'I' acta de sujeto (est en posicin de sujeto),
mientras que 'it' y 'her' estn en posicin de objeto (despus del verbo).

b. Los pronombres complemento u objeto se diferencian de los pronombres sujeto


tanto a nivel de la forma (me vs. I; her vs. she) como de la funcin en la oracin.
Mientras que los pronombres sujeto ocupan la posicin inicial de la oracin, los
pronombres objetos se utilizan despus del verbo o de una preposicin.
