After viewing the Academic Integrity Policy and the Common

Craft: Plagiarism Video, please respond to the following
questions:

Video: http://www.commoncraft.com/video/plagiarism

1. Plagiarism is commonly referred to as

the passing off of another persons work as ones own, whether

deliberate or accidental. Accidental plagiarism is usually the result
of poor citation or referencing or poor preparation or a
misunderstanding of plagiarism. Deliberate plagiarism is an
attempt to claim another persons work as ones own
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/plagiarism)

2. How will student work be checked for plagiarism? (List at

least two ways)
The teacher will use a program called Turnitin to check for
plagiarism. The teacher will also compare the work to other
students to make sure there is no copying happening.

3. Sanctions for plagiarism include (list at least two possible

consequences):

Receiving a zero on the course, a note on one record and

expulsion.

4. What is the difference between accidental plagiarism and

deliberate plagiarism?

Accidental plagiarism is forgetting to use quotation marks

and writing the authors name. Deliberate plagiarism is
copying on purpose and lying about it.
5. How can you avoid plagiarism, while still integrating support
(ideas and quotes) in your own work?
Use quotation marks and say who the author is. Always say
where I found the information.

6. Other than the written work, what other items can be

plagiarized? Can you still use these items? How?
Drawings, speeches, music, structural models and statistics
can also be plagiarized. You can still use them as long as you
give credit. (https://www.commoncraft.com/video/plagiarism)

7. Do some internet research and find at least one website (not

listed in the Academic Integrity Policy or on the Common
Craft Video) that helped you understand how to avoid
plagiarism.
