Dear Parishioners,
The message in todays readings is: God gives us living water to sustain our lives. In the
first reading from Exodus, God gives water through Moses, even in spite of the peoples
complaints.
St Paul speaks about a HOPE that is not deceptive because the love of God is poured into
our hearts (just like living water poured out for us).
The Gospel of John records the famous dialogue (banter) between Jesus and the woman at
the well in Samaria.
All social custom are set aside by Jesus. He was a Jew
speaking to a Samaritan woman. In spite of her reputation, there is
no word of condemnation from Jesus. He respects her and invites
her to think about her sad disappointing life. She has been
searching for love; being married five times indicates she has been
through many broken relationships. She had to come to the well at
the hottest part of the day, to avoid meeting other women who
would scorn her, but not Jesus He asks her for a drink of water,
and so the dialogue begins. In the end she runs back into the town to tell others that she has met
the Messiah. They in turn listen to Jesus and believe.
Its remarkable how Jesus can use the strangest of people, totally unexpected to be his
evangelist. We need to treasure the faith we have; the living water of life that comes from Jesus
and see our task to bring the good news to others,
TURKEY, SYRIA, MIDDLE EAST and HUMAN RIGHTS: There are two documents
available on line. Our 3rd Imrali Delegations Report and the Debate in the House of Commons
on 9th March: https://www.theyworkforyou.com/whall/?id=2017-03-09b.402.1 and Kurdish
News: 3rd Imrali Delegation Report.
The debate on 9th March is the first of its kind in nearly 4 years; so revealing and
informative. Its interesting that after so much SILENCE on Turkish issues, that at last we are
hearing something in the public arena. But still several of our daily newspapers give very little
coverage.
THANK you for your generosity in the CAFOD collection last Sunday. It came to
1,534.37. As you can see on TV, such human suffering in East Africa and Yemen and
elsewhere; let us continue to do what we can.
THANKS to all who participated and helped in a magnificent St Patrick celebration last
Sunday.
