2.INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
We have seen that the forcing function in a forced vibration
system can have forcing function type as
Harmonic (including rotating eccentric mass)
Periodic
Transient
Random
Of this, we have seen system response to Harmonic function
like unbalance.
3.TRANSIENT VIBRATIONS
Transient Vibrations
Transient vibration is defined as a temporarily sustained vibration of a
mechanical system.
It may consist of forced or free vibrations, or both.
Transient loading, also known as impact, or mechanical shock, is a
non-periodic excitation, which is characterized by a sudden and
severe application.
In real life, mechanical shock is very common.
Some examples of shock could be a forging hammer, an automobile
passing trough a road bump, the free drop of an item from a height,
etc.
4.RANDOM VIBRATIONS
Random Vibrations
In mechanical engineering, random vibration is motion which is non-
deterministic, meaning that future behavior cannot be precisely
predicted.
The randomness is a characteristic of the excitation or input, not the
mode shapes or natural frequencies.
Some common examples include an automobile riding on a rough
road, wave height on the water or the load induced on an airplane
wing during flight.
