Dr. Arkanoff and the hiring committee,

I am writing to express my interest in the position of assistant principal at Center Grove High School. My background in
athletic training, teaching and leadership has prepared me with the cross-functional skills necessary to be a collaborative
and communicative team member. I am an astute individual, always striving for efficiency, exuding positivity and fostering
creativity and innovation among staff and students.

My professional roots began as an outreach athletic trainer working for Methodist Sports Medicine at Decatur Central High
School in 2002. My creation of a student athletic training program sparked my passion for teaching and learning. My positive
interactions with students nudged me to consider substitute teaching. In the middle of a semester in 2007, I took over the
health occupations program at Decatur Central High School that has now evolved into the Project Lead the Way Biomedical
Sciences program. This is my full-time teaching position, and the integration of this STEM program fosters development of
the soft skills necessary for students to succeed in college and career. This opportunity was a blessing for me, as I learned
that I was meant to be an educator. Since 2007, I have had an opportunity to grow and learn as an educator through the
fabulous mentorship of many great teachers and educational leaders. My role has expanded and evolved from PLTW
teacher to master teacher and lead teacher of my small learning community. I am currently in my second year as lead
teacher for the school of Quest and Inquiry. In addition, I am a PLTW master teacher and help lead 80 hours of curriculum
integration training over the summer at IUPUI. These roles have shown me the importance of building and maintaining
positive working relationships. Leadership consists of honesty, fairness and the power of listening and asking questions. I
attend all situations with an open mind and a level head. I feel the leadership and development of teachers is paramount to
achieving positive student outcomes and building a culture of collaboration and success in a school.

Over the course of my 14 years in Decatur Township I strived to serve the students, teachers and parents of the community.
As an athletic trainer, teacher and leader, I provide a skill-set that can attack situations with a unique perspective. I am very
level headed and maintain a calm and positive demeanor. My experiences have taught me the relationships with
stakeholders are the most important. There are various personalities, skill-sets and occupations that allow a school to run as
safe and effective as possible. I love to develop a culture of collaboration, positive communication and empowerment to
allow my teachers to become leaders in areas of their greatest strengths. I am someone my teachers can depend upon for
guidance, advice, feedback and mentorship. A leader who takes care of his or her staff will create a climate of caring and
compassionate teachers who take car of their students.

My professional background has provided me with various opportunities to grow as a professional, educator and leader. The
position of assistant principal will take a great deal of teamwork, communication and continual learning. I am quick to learn,
have an inexhaustible work ethic and love to develop a team of teachers who are creative and innovative.

This will lead to Exceptional Educational Experiences with teachers encouraging and inspiring their students to also be
creative and innovative.
I thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to review my interest in the open position. I look forward to hearing
from you.

Serving Education,

Brian S. Bulmer MS, LAT
