2. SHCS FIELD DESCRIPTION

Below describes general description of integrated field operations of typical SHCS along with objectives
required of SHCS.

2.1. FCV OVERVIEW

FCV is located sub-surface within Intelligent Well Completions (IWC). Each IWC FCV consists of
individual control line and return line terminated at individual control/return line outlets at SHCS. Shared
common line configuration is also possible for 2 valves, 3 valves and it can be configured up till 12
ODIN valves. It depends upon SHCS design. High-pressure actuation control line tubings are
connected to FCV for actuation.

ODIN is one of the types of FCVs that can be controlled via SCHS

ODIN
o ODIN valve has 08 total positions: Fully Close, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Fully Open
o Each ODIN valve requires 01 Actuation line and 01 common line to operate.
o Upon high fluid pressure of Actuation Line, an embedded slide within sleeve of FCV is
slowly moved passed to move the valve in Intermediate Position.
o Once control line is depressurized, common line is pressurized which slowly pushes the
valve sleeve into Final Position. Upon completion of the pre-configured hold time, pressure
is released from the common line. Next position is achieved and displayed at the HMI.
o Any additional set of sequence increases FCV position by one.
o Full sequencing of all available positions is referred to a one Cycle.

2.2. SHCS AND FCV INTERCONNECTION

Single high-pressure actuation control line tubing is connected to FCV for actuation. Said control line
tubing is laid the full length of the IWC and connected to top-side IWC wellhead and seamlessly
connected to associated SHCS control line outlet, which is located top-side and away from wellhead.

IWC tubing is typically diameter and constructed of high tension, thermal resistant, alloy 316SS
construction capable of withstanding excessive high temperatures and pressures.

Each IWC FCV consists of individual control line and return line terminated at individual control/return
line outlets at SHCS.

FCV and SHCS direct connectivity do not include Down Hole Pressure Temperature (DHPT) gauges,
cabling of any other interconnection media but indirect connectivity is available from WellWatcher
through Modbus.

2.3.2. SECONDARY OBJECTIVE

SHCS Secondary objectives are included to help monitor, maintain, trend and analyze certain
parameters when executing Primary Objectives.

1. Fluid Supply Volume As pressurized control line & common line fluid actuates FCV,
fluid volume should be displayed, logged and trended so that Completions Operators may
know and understand supply fluid volume for each FCV Operation Sequence which can
help to predict the position of FCV.
2. Control Line Fluid Return Volume In ODIN valve a common line will be pressurized
which will displace the actuation line volume back to the SCHS tank. Said fluid volume
should be displayed, logged and trended so that Completions Operators may know and
understand return fluid volume for each FCV Operation Sequence.
3. Common Line Fluid Return Volume In ODIN upon pressurizing the control line, fluid
will return from the common like as the actuator is a J-type mechanical lock cylinder /FCV.
Said fluid volume should be displayed, logged and trended so that Completions Operators
may know and understand return fluid volume for each FCV Operation Sequence.
4. Control Line Pressure Individual FCV control lines pressure should be displayed.

2.3.3. TERTIARY OBJECTIVE

SHCS Tertiary objective is overall monitoring of SHCS health, performance and control of SHCS
operations.

1. SHCS HPU pressure

4. SHCS PRE-CONFIGURATION PARAMETERS

Completions Operator will input certain configurations within HMI that will be retained. Below describes
parameters set points HMI Operator will input prior to SHCS operations.

4.1. MOTOR CONTROLS

The motor controls pump pressure within HPU that is applied to valve actuation control lines. Motor is
controlled by fluid reservoir level transducer and main pressure supply header transducer. To
conserve motor life and operational load, motor start command has a 15(Configurable) second
Consecutive Command Delay between sequential start commands. Motor controls are disabled during
Stand-By (Ready for Next Command) until a positioning command is given from HMI.

4.1.1. FLUID RESERVOIR LEVEL

Fluid within reservoir is supplied to pump which supplies fluid pressure to HPU and FCV control lines.
By configuring Reservoir Level configurations at HMI, Motor can be controlled in the event of loss of
reservoir fluid. Input error checking and error trapping are in effect. All fields must have input values or
SHCS is rendered inoperable.

HMI operator may input within set point range of minimum 10% to maximum 100%:

1. Reference Tag: LT-001

2. Reservoir HI Set point: Once fluid level rises above set point, a warning alarm is generated to
indicate to operator that excessive fluid level is approaching.
a. Input percentage value must not be higher than Reservoir HIHI Set point or lower than
Reservoir LO Set point.
b. Alarm indication should be Red in color and read:

i. Caution, High Reservoir Fluid Approaching

3. Reservoir HIHI Set point: Once fluid level rises above set point, Motor Start Command is disabled
until fluid is extracted below Set point. This prevents reservoir overflow due to aerated fluid being
returned to reservoir.

Technical Note* Aerated fluid accumulates several inches above fluid line and will overflow thru tank
reservoir filler cap.

a. Input percentage value must not be higher than 100% or lower than Reservoir HI Set point.
b. Alarm indication should be red in color and read:
i. Reservoir Fluid HIHI; Drain Fluid Before Issuing Next Command
4. Reservoir LO Set point: Once fluid level decreases below set point, a warning alarm is generated
to indicate to operator that deficient fluid level is approaching.
a. Input percentage value must not be higher than Reservoir HI Set point or lower than
Reservoir LOLO Set point.
b. Alarm indication should be Red in color and read:
i. Caution, Low Reservoir Fluid Approaching
5. Reservoir LOLO Set point: Once fluid level decreases below set point, Motor Start Command is
disabled until fluid is added above Set point. This prevents pump cavitation.
a. Input percentage value must not be higher than Reservoir LO Set point or lower than 10%.
b. Alarm indication should be red in color and read:
i. Reservoir Fluid LOLO; Fill Fluid Before Issuing Next Command

Technical Note* LOLO Set point cannot be input below 10%.

4.1.2. HPU PRESSURE

Fluid pressure transducer at HPU pump maintains fluid pressure of HPU and Well Control Lines. By
configuring HPU Pressure configurations at HMI, Motor can be controlled to maintain SHCS operations
within specified fluid pressure range. Input error checking and error trapping are in effect. All fields
must have input values or SHCS is rendered inoperable.

HMI operator may input below set point in pounds per square inch (PSI) from minimum 0psi to
maximum 10,000psi, default value of 0psi shall be put in for testing:

1. Reference Tag: PT-001

2. HPU Pressure HI Set point: Once FCV Operation Sequence is active and motor is energized,
pump pressure will increase during FCV Pressure Up sequence. Once pump header pressure
rises above set point, PLC shall issue Motor Stop Command; this will de-energize motor until pump
pressure falls below HPU Pressure LO Set point.
a. HMI shall display this set point as Pump Stop Set Point, as HI Set point may
indicate an alarming event. However, this is normal operating condition.

point.
b. Alarm indication should be red in color and read:
i. Pump Pressure HIHI; For Safety SHCS Automatically Depressurized! Reduce
HPU Pump Stop Set Point Before Issuing Next Command
4. HPU Pressure LO Set point: Once header pressure falls below set point, Motor Start Command
will energize motor until pump pressure reaches HPU Pressure HI Set point.
a. HMI shall display this set point as Pump Start Set Point, as LO Set point may
indicate an alarming event. However, this is normal operating condition.
b. Input PSI value must not be higher than HPU Pressure HI Set point or lower than HPU
Pressure LOLO Set point.
c. There is no alarm or warning associated with this set point as this is normal operation
of SHCS. Motor HMI object will indicate to operator:
i. Motor Control Enabled / Motor Running
5. HPU Pressure LOLO Set point: If header pressure falls below set point while conducting FCV
Operation Sequence, Motor Start Command will de-energize motor. This indicates possible fluid
leak or open isolation valve. HPU
a. Input PSI value must not be higher than HPU Pressure LO Set point or lower than
0psi.
b. Alarm indication should be yellow in color and read:
i. Pump Pressure LOLO; Verify Hand Valves Closed or Possible Fluid Leak
Before Issuing Next Command

Technical Note* Motor start-up bypass timer of 1 minute must be in effect during initial start-up in
order to bypass HPU Pressure LOLO Set point.

Technical Note* Several environmental effects within fluid dynamics result in fluid pressure decreasing
once nominal topside pressure has been achieved within a hydraulic circuit. 1.) Compressed fluid
under pressure may contain trace amounts of compressed air within the extension of tubing circuit. As
the compressed air decompressed due to temperature variations, control line fluid pressure will slowly
decrease. 2.) As fluid pressure is exerted onto downhole FCV slide sleeve, slide will slowly move,
which results in slight abrupt fluid pressure loss. 3.) FCV control line tubing may span such a distance
that inherent tubing resistance may be high enough that topside pump pressure will reach nominal
pressure before downhole fluid pressure is fully exerted onto FCV actuator. This results in a slow

decrease in topside pump pressure as fluid pressure spans the length of the downhole FCV control line
tubing. These effects are considered normal operating conditions.

Technical Note* All Completions instruments and valves have a minimum and maximum actuation
pressure. Ideally, Motor Controls should operate within these actuation parameters. The motor
should stop below the maximum actuation pressure and start above the minimum actuation pressure.
In the event there are multiple ranges of actuation pressures within an Intelligent Well Completions,
motor should stop before pressure reaches the lowest of the combined maximum actuation pressure
and start above the highest of the combined minimum actuation pressure. These parameters can only
be defined by Completions Operators. However, Topside Completions Design Engineers should be
aware of this.

Technical Note* Maximum design pressure of SHCS: 10,000psi

Maximum operating pressure of SHCS: 9,500psi

4.1.3. LEAK DETECTION MONITORING

Leak detection monitoring compares fluid flow rate against low pump pressure to determine if a leak is
present within SHCS. Whereas high fluid flow rate with no pressure increase indicates a ruptured line
or internal valve inadvertently left open. To minimize the amount of fluid loss, operator can input a
specific time in which this condition can exist before de-energizing motor.

HMI operator may input below set points in minutes from a minimum of 1 minute to a maximum of 100
minutes:

1. Leak Detection Timer: If fluid flow and low fluid pressure after timer has elapsed, indicates a leak.
De-energizes motor.
a. Input minute value must not be lower than Pressure Up Time Set point
b. Alarm indication should be Red in color and read:
i. SHCS has Detected a Fluid Leak; Verify Hand Valves Closed or Possible Fluid
Leak Before Issuing Next Command

4.2. SHCS FCV PRE-CONFIGURATION

FCV Pre-Configurations include specific positioning, pressure and timing parameters required for each
individual FCV Operation Sequence to be conducted.

Only FCV Move Commands (Move Next Position, Move X Position, Move Cycle, Reset Sequence &
Resume Sequence ) and positioning parameters (Initial position and X position) can be sent from
SCADA, rest all parameters have be set through HMI.

4.2.1. FCV POSITIONS

FCV Initial Position: Operator may have the opportunity to pre-set current FCV position if desired.
FCV Initial Position will be retained during FCV Operation Sequence and begin increments from FCV
Initial Position.

4.2.2. TIMING AND PRESSURE SET POINTS

Fluid pressure transducer at each FCV control line circuit monitors fluid pressure of individual FCV
control line. FCV pressure and timing set point configurations are used to ensure FCV control line
pressure is retained so that FCV positions are accurate.

HMI operator may input below set point in pounds per square inch (PSI), minutes or seconds where
applicable:

1. FCV Pressure HI Set point: During FCV Pressure up Time sequence, once FCV control line
pressure rises above FCV Pressure HI Set point, sequence will enable FCV Pressure Hold
sequence. FCV control line pressure is allowed to decrease below set point without any alarms or
indications as this is considered normal operation.

NOTE* Ideally, FCV Pressure HI Set point will not be above maximum required
actuation pressure of FCV.

a. Input PSI value must not be higher than HPU Pressure HI Set point or lower than FCV
Pressure LO Set point.
b. There is no alarm or warning associated with this set point as this is normal operation of
SHCS.
c. HMI will indicate to Operator:
i. FCV X Pressuring Up
d. Field Input Units: PSI

2. FCV Pressure LO Set point: During FCV Pressure Hold sequence, FCV control line pressure
must remain above FCV Pressure LO Set point to ensure control line pressure is applied to the
minimum required actuation pressure of FCV. In the event pressure decreases below FCV
Pressure LO Set point during FCV Pressure Hold sequence within allotted time, control line
solenoid will de-energize to de-pressurize FCV control line and FCV position will not change.

NOTE* Ideally, FCV Pressure LO Set point will not be set below minimum required actuation pressure
of FCV.

a. Input PSI value must not be higher than FCV Pressure HI Set point or lower than HPU
Pressure LO Set point.
b. Alarm indication should be Red in color and read:

5. SHCS HMI CONTROL COMMANDS

Once SHCS configurations for HPU and FCV(s) have been established and SHCS is
in Ready for Next Command, Operator may begin issuing HPU and FCV commands.

5.1. SHCS GLOBAL COMMANDS

1. SCADA Control: SCADA Control command issues SHCS control commands to 3rd party
SCADA Modbus protocol. All other SHCS HMI commands are not available to Operator with
the exception of HMI Control and HPU Shutdown commands.
2. HMI Control: HMI Control command issues SHCS control commands to PLC via Modbus
TCP/IP protocol. HMI Control is default value at startup.
3. SHCS Reset: SHCS Reset command resets any abnormal alarm, scans for any existing
alarms and resets SHCS to Ready for Next Command.

5.2. HPU COMMANDS

HPU commands are available to HMI Operator when SHCS is indicated as Ready for Next Command.

1. HPU (PUMP) Automatic Mode: While SHCS is in HPU (PUMP) Automatic Mode, all FCV
Operation Sequencing is done via PLC as described in Section FCV Remote Operation. Only
commands as described in Section FCV Commands are required by Operator are necessary to
execute SHCS functionality. HPU Automatic Mode is default value at startup.
2. HPU (PUMP) Manual Mode: While SHCS is in HPU Manual Mode of operation, the
pressurization and de-pressurizing of the HPU is dependent upon HMI Operator. The
pressurization and de-pressurization of the FCV control line is dependent on local field
Operator. Only partial FCV Operation Sequencing will be executed and monitored by PLC as
described in Section FCV Manual Operation. HPU Manual Mode available commands are
described below.
a. HPU Pressure Up: At HPU Pressure Up command, Start Motor Command energizes
motor. All motor controls are in effect as described in Section Motor Controls.
b. HPU Pressure Bleed: At HPU Pressure Bleed command, Start Motor Command is de-
energized to stop motor and HPU Bleed solenoid is energized for 30 seconds to de-
pressurize HPU as described in Section HPU Pressure Bleed.

NOTE* While in HPU Manual Mode and HPU Pressure is above 500psi, switching to HPU Automatic
Mode is not available to Operator.

3. HPU Filtration Mode: While SHCS is in HPU Filtration Mode, only Leak Detection Monitoring
is disabled. This function allows Operator to energize motor in order to circulate fluid without
fluid pressure thru mass filter for optimal cleanliness. This mode may also be used at initial
startup to purge/flush un-wanted air out of hydraulic tubing circuits.
a. Pump Start: Energizes Motor Start Command to energize motor for maintenance
purposes. If HPU pressure exceeds 500psi, Motor Start Command is de-energized.

b. Pump Stop: De-energizes Motor Start Command to stop motor once maintenance is
completed.
4. HPU Shutdown/ESD : HPU Shutdown command de-energizes Motor Start Command and
energizes HPU Bleed solenoid for 30 seconds. HPU Shutdown is available to Operator at all
times regardless of HPU Pressure, mode of operation or FCV Operation Sequence. While
HPU Shutdown command is active, no other HPU or FCV Commands are available to
Operator. Only issuing a SHCS Reset command will un-latch HPU Shutdown.

5.3. FCV COMMANDS

Three commands are available for each individual FCV with each well while SHCS is in HPU Automatic
Mode and SHCS indicates Ready for Next Command. FCV Commands are not available for Operator
use while in HPU Manual Mode or SCADA Control. During FCV Operational Sequence, all other FCV
commands are not available.

1. Move to Next Position: At command, FCV control line solenoid is energized Open and Motor
Start Command energizes motor. FCV Operation Sequence is in full effect to increment
intended FCV by one position (N+1). Once FCV Operation Sequence is complete and in final
position, SHCS Ready for Next Command.
2. Move to X Position: At command, Operator must input desired position for intended FCV to
move to. At confirmation of input position, FCV control line solenoid is energized Open and
Motor Start Command energizes motor. FCV Operation Sequence is in full effect to increment
intended FCV by one position until desired final position is achieved (N+X). Once FCV
Operation Sequence is complete and in final position, SHCS Ready for Next Command. Input
error checking and error trapping are in effect. Desired position field must have input value or
command is not allowed.
a. Input whole number value must within FCV Position number range;
3. Cycle Valve: At command, FCV control line solenoid is energized Open and Motor Start
Command energizes motor. FCV Operation Sequence is in full effect to increment intended
FCV by one position (N+1) for the entire FCV Positions available up to and including the
initiating position the FCV rested at the Cycle Command was given. Once FCV Operation
Sequence is complete and in final position, SHCS Ready for Next Command.

6. FCV OPERATION SEQUENCE

Any command from HMI to change the valve position will lead to a sequence of steps for every change
in valve position. All steps constitute one complete sequence of valve operation. PLC controller
maintains a count of the valve position based upon successful FCV Operation Sequence. The steps
involved in one move operation (move from position n to position n + 1) are mentioned below in the
same sequence as these will be applied during a sequence.

Whenever a command to move the position of FCV will be issued, the FCV control line solenoid valve
will energize open and Motor Start Command will energize motor. Motor Controls will remain in effect
during complete FCV Operation Sequence.

6.2. FCV REMOTE OPERATION

Remote operation refers to any and all commands to SHCS that are done via HMI or 3rd party SCADA.

The sequences will be exactly the same as described in section 6.1.X

6.3. FCV MANUAL OPERATION

FCV manual operation mechanically bypasses a single FCV control line solenoid to actuate downhole
FCV. Each FCV control line circuit contains a SHCS panel mounted hand valve that may be switched
to bypass associated solenoid.

As described in Section HPU Commands-HPU (Pump) Manual Mode, pressurization and de-
pressurization is dependent on HMI commands.

FCV Manual Operation requires diligence and attention from local operator to sequence operation
correctly. Local operator must ensure proper hand valve is used for associated FCV and pressure
duration is sufficient in order to count correct positioning.

Following sub-sections provide details for manual operations for single FCV positioning sequence.

6.3.1. HPU PRESSURE UP

While HPU is in HPU Manual Mode, HMI Operator will issue HPU Pressure Up command to energize
Motor Start Command. Motor Controls will be in effect as described in Section Motor Controls. HPU
pressure will increase and stop at HPU Pressure HI Set point. FCV control line will not be pressurized.

6.3.2. FCV MANUAL PRESSURE UP

Local operator will manually turn associated FCV control line hand valve from Automatic to Manual.
FCV control line pressure will increase to FCV Pressure up Set point and start FCV Pressure Hold
sequence.

Alternately, local operator may position FCV hand valve in Manual prior to manual HPU Pressure Up
command. This will have the same effect.

6.3.3. FCV PRESSURE HOLD SEQUENCE

When FCV Pressure Hold sequence is initiated, the FCV manual hand valve will remain open for the
duration specified in the FCV Pressure Hold Set point. Once FCV Pressure Hold Time has lapsed the
FCV will reach intermediate position.

It is incumbent upon the local operator to ensure FCV hand valve remains open for the entire duration
of the FCV Pressure Hold sequence. The hand valve may remain open indefinitely passed the
required FCV Pressure Hold Time Set point, so long as FCV control line pressure remains above FCV
Pressure LO Set point, FCV will remain in Intermediate Position.

Local operator must observe FCV control line pressure gauge at panel face. Once FCV control line
pressure stabilizes, this is evidence that embedded slide within FCV has reached Intermediate
Position.

If the FCV control line pressure decreases below FCV Pressure LO Set point during FCV Pressure
Hold sequence, FCV Pressure Hold Fail Alarm will be generated and FCV position will not change.

6.3.4. FCV MANUAL PRESSURE BLEED

Once FCV has reached Intermediate Position and local operator has observed stable pressure, local
operator may turn associated FCV control line hand valve from Manual to Automatic. FCV control
line will de-pressurize below 500psi. Once FCV Control line pressure has decreased below FCV
Pressure LO Set point, FCV position will increment by one.

Alternately, local operator may keep FCV hand valve in Manual and HMI Operator may issue HPU
Pressure Bleed command to energize HPU bleed solenoid for 30 seconds. This will have the same
effect as turning hand valve to Automatic.

If the FCV control line pressure fails to decrease below FCV Pressure LO Set point, FCV position will
not change.

Note: In ODIN Valve same set of manual operations will be performed on the associated common line
after completing actuation line sequence.

6.3.5. ADDITIONAL MANUAL OPERATION NOTES

As noted, FCV control line pressure up is dependent of local operator moving FCV hand valves. The
automatic FCV Operation Sequence is only partial and is used for pressure monitoring and
incrementing FCV positions.

Ideally, only one FCV hand valve would be changed to Manual at a single time. However, positioning
more than one FCV hand valve is possible either mistakenly or intentionally. In the event this scenario
is present, FCV Operation Sequence must account for all FCV control line pressure increases, FCV
Pressure Hold sequence durations, decreasing below FCV Pressure LO Set point(s) and positioning
increments.

Additionally, FCV control line pressures may increase even while SHCS is not in HPU Manual Mode.
There is no mechanical protection from turning FCV X hand valve to Manual even when FCV Y is in
sequence operation while in HPU Automatic Mode. The FCV Operation Sequence must remain in
effect for all FCV control lines regardless of intended and un-intended commands.

NOTE* Any time any FCV control line(s) pressure increases above FCV Pressure Up Set point,
continues thru FCV Pressure Hold Time and decreases below FCV Pressure LO Set point; the
FCV Operation Sequence must assume the FCV has changed position. This is the Primary
Objective of SHCS.
