What should be seen in your proposal?

1. Introduction (problem description and background)


- You should be able to discuss the need for and value of the project in the
context of a customers need.
- Include background materials
- Clearly identify the need.
2. Problem Definition (requirements and specifications)
- Definition of the problem, including identifying requirements,
specifications and constraints
- Discuss requirements quantitatively (with tolerances)
- Give physical constraints and environmental constraints
- Define interface requirements when your project impacts other project
- Tell the relative merit of each objective and/or performance specification
- Provide criteria for making trade-offs between objectives and
specifications
3. Objectives and Deliverables (SOW,etc.)
- Present scope of work (SOW)
- Objectives (what you hope to achieve)
- Work to be completed (exactly what tasks you will do to achieve the
objectives)
- Deliverables (what you will give your customer)
4. Engineering Approach (including solution alternatives)
- Present your proposed engineering approach (your design ideas),
including different solution alternatives
- Detailed description of the project at the system/functional level
- Present your verification approach (Note: Outline your testing
procedures (individual module, integrated subsytems, and overall
system) and resulting tables, graphs, and measured values that will
assess the project performance.
- Tolerance analysis
- Describe what professional codes and standards may be relevant for the
project.
