student would share the cost equally. But 10 more students joined and as a result
the fare decreased by tk. 8 per person. How many students were travelling in the
bus????
Solution: Let, the number of students= x
Total Cost = 2400 taka
2400
Then per student cost was = taka

After joining 10 students, total number of students (x+10), and then per student
2400
cost= taka

(x-50)(x+60)=0
x-50=0 x+60=0
x=50 x=-60 not expectable
The number of students who were travelling is (x+10) = 50+10=60
Answer: The number of students who were travelling is 60
Question: The average age of students of a class is 15.8 years. The average age of
boys in the class is 16.4 years and that of the girls is 15.4 years. Find the ratio of
number of boys to the number of girls in the class.
Solution:
Let, no. of boys is =x and the number of girls is =y
According to the question,
16.4x +15.4 y =15.8(x+y)
16.4x + 15.4 y = 15.8x + 15.8y
16.4x -15.8x =15.8y -15.4 y
0.6 x = 0.4y
6x =4y

Question 4: The percentage profit earned by selling an article for 1920 taka is
equal to the percentage loss incurred by selling the same article for 128o taka. At
what price should be the article is sold to make 25% profit???
Solution:
Let, Cost price be x taka
According to the question,
1920-x = x-1280
X+X = 1920+1280
2x= 3200
3200
X=
2
X=1600
The cost price of the article is 16oo taka

Now, at 25% profit, the selling price will be = (1600 + 1600 ) taka
100
= (1600+400) taka =2000 taka

## Question 5: A can do a piece of work in 10 days, while B alone can do in 15 days.

They work together for 5 days and the rest of the work is done by C in 2 days. If
they get 4500 taka for the whole work, how should they divide the money???
Solution:
