Using

an ASTROLABE
MEASURE THE HEIGHT OF THE SUN

1. Take the astrolabe with one

hand and turn the straw to
the sun. Place the other hand
on the other end of the straw
and tilt the astrolabe until
you can see a bright spot in
the palm of your hand. At
that time the straw is
pointing towards the sun.

2. Read the number where the

line passes. This value
indicates the height of the
Sun, that is, the angle that
the Sun makes with the
horizon (in degrees).

It determines the height of the Sun in several hours of different days, for three or four months. It
should be at least one day a week. If atmospheric conditions allow it, take measurements at the
same times on different days. Try to include the day of the winter solstice (in December) and the
summer solstice (in June). File all the information you'll collect.
