+ The strategy for sustainable construction was published in 2000 by the
Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions ~ DETR
(20008), which followed on from the 1999 priorities. This document set
‘out ways that the construction industry could contribute to the
achievement of more sustainable development.
+ These were:
1) Being more profitable and more competitive;
2) Delivering buildings and structures that provide greater
‘atstactio, wellbeing and valet customers anders;
13) Respecting and treating its stakeholders more fairly;
4) Enhancing and better protecting the natural environment; and
'5) Minimizing its impact on the consumption of energy (especially
‘carbon-based energy) and natural resources.
Inresponse to these global agreements, sustainability has
been high on Government Agenda. In 1999, the UNFCCCACHIEVEMENT OF BUSINESS
