SUMMARY
The Effect of Limestone Dust Exposure Against Increased Blood Serum TNF
and Declining The lung Function On Miners In Jadi Village Semanding
District Tuban Regency
ix
The result of this research showed that the mean age of the worker was 36-
40 years old, limestone miners (42,8%), office employees (66,6%), the mean of
working period of miners was 4,43 years and 2,83 years for office employee,
85,7% limestone miners was a light smokers, while all of the office employees
were light smokers. The mean of personal dust degree miners after working for 8
hours was 10,407 mg/m3 and office employee was 0,265 mg/m3. The increasing
of blood serum TNF on miners was 71,43% and on office employees was 16,7%
with mean for miners (2,51) and office employees (-9,82). The decreasing of FVC
and FEV1 on miners were 85,7% and 71,4% while FVC and FEV1 on office
employees were 50% and 16,7%. Personal limestone dust did not influence
significantly to the increasing of TNF (multiple regression test, p>0,05), in the
other hand, personal limestone dust influenced to the declining the lungs function
of the miners (multiple regression test, p<0,05). Age, working period and smoked
habit neither influenced to the increasing of TNF nor the decreasing of the
function of the lungs.
It is conclusion that personal limestone dust does not influence to the
increasing of blood serum TNF, but personal limestone dust influence to the
declining the lungs function of the miners after working. Suggestion: do regular
check up on the function of the lungs is important, especially to detect short term
change which occur and can help to identify risky subject.
