Plant Blindness Reflection

According to Wandersee and Schusslers Plant Blindness, I think plant blindness

means people always neglect the importance of plants and people cannot see the problems

that faced by plants. Actually I really have Plant Blindness before you started this class, I

never know there are one in eight plant species worldwide is currently threatened by

extinction. My mother like plants, she always like to visit the botanical garden, when I was

a kid and go out with her I always not interested about visit the botanical garden, but more

interested in the zoos, maybe because animals can move and make noise, on the other hand,

people always like to anthropomorphic animals, most children do not know how to

appreciate the beauty of stillness, so most of people love animals since they are young and

this habit grow up with them, and there are also many movies talk about people with

animals, like Life of Pi, Hachik, the street cat named bob, but people are not familiar with

any movie about plants. There is a reason in Wandersee and Schusslers article that I think is

very reasonable, which is plants always live together, and people always can see a forest but

cannot focus on a tree. I am agree with this opinion, because that really happened, people

always see plants in a large number, a few people will focus on one tree.

Even this article wrote 20 years I think its still applicable today, the opinions in this

article still useful, and there are still many improvement that need to be improved in our

education. I think its really important to teach students about plants since they are young,

that is the way to change make plants as a background, and more botanical gardens will help

too. I was born in China, actually this is the first class talk about plants I ever took, all my
memories about plants are from my grandmothers balcony. So I think we need have a big

improvement in our education and talk more about plants this applies to any country.

More knowledge about plants will help us to cure Plant Blindness, on the other

hand, make students interested about plants is also a great way to cure Plant Blindness, we

can go to green house more often, and now is spring, more and more flower are blossoming,

Its a great time make students interest about plants.

The other organisms that we as a society might be blind to is mushroom, mushroom

always being ignored by people.
