Through Prayer
Scripture: 1 John 3:8,James 5:16 Mathew 6::9-13. USE NKJV or NLT translations
Ice breaker: If you where to become more like Jesus what would that look like?
Introductions: When se study scripture we see that everywhere Jesus went he
changed peoples lives. Tells us that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. The
work of the devil is everything that brings people down, that destroys lives, that keeps
people in bitterness and hatred. Everything that keeps people separated from a life
changing relationship with God. Jesus came to break all that. Since Jesus did that we
are to become the kind of people that Jesus was when he walked on the earth. The
primary way we become like him is through effective prayer.

1. Our first step in prayer is to start with worship.

Our father who are in heaven hallowed be your name, (NKJV)
Worship is acknowledging God for who he is.

2. Our second step in prayer is to surrender

You will be done on earth as it is in heaven (NKJV)
When we surrender to the will of God we bring what he has available in the riches of
heaven down to our sphere of life.

3. Our second step in prayer is Asking for our needs

Give us this day our daily bread (NKJV)
When we ask before we worship and before we surrender we miss the mark and ask for
things that are not important in the grand scheme of things.

4. Our fourth step in prayer is forgiveness

Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors (NKJV)
As we receive Gods forgiveness for missing the mark we simultaneously forgive those
who did us wrong.

5. Our fifth step is confronting evil in our lives with Gods power
And do not lead us into temptation but deliver us from the evil one. (NKJV)
All the evil forces trying to destroy you can be defeated with Gods power.

6. The sixth step in prayer is exaltation

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. (NKJV)
All prayer should finish acknowledging that Gods has the power and not our enemy.
God rules over our lives and not luck or chance. It is acknowledging that Gods all
authority and his agenda is the highest agenda.

1. If you where to be more like Jesus what would your life look like?
2. How would the relationships change if you spent time in regular prayer?
3. Why is it important to worship and surrender to God before we ask him for stuff?
4. How does prayer give us the opportunity to forgive those that did us wrong?
5. How can prayer make you dangerous to the devil and all evil plans on the earth?
