3- Planning & Strategy

Upon obtaining RC approvals for Materials and Shop Drawing (if

necessary), as well as the necessary encroachment permits from the
concerned authorities (i.e. RC, STC, SCECO and Marafiq) works will start
according to the sequence of the approved Contract Schedule.

4- Procurement

KICL shall start procurement after receiving the IFC drawings and scope
of work. As there is no long lead item for other relevant material KICL
shall obtain RC approvals (if necessary).

5- Construction Methodology

5.1 Channel

Having the Channel with Total Length of approx. 900 LM, works will
be carried by dividing it to three (3) Segments starting from the
Downstream, the execution of each Segment will be as follows:

- Blocking the Downstream to prevent the backflow of Seawater

during high tide duration.

- Adequate number of ordinary & Dewatering Pumps will be

provided to dry the surface & underground water, Pumps will be
provided at the Upstream of each segment to discharge water
coming the upstream of channel to prevent the accumulation of
water in the channel, knowing the channel in whole is serving the
Storm Water Drainage of the Industrial Area.

- Right after drying the Area, Joint Survey will be carried to record
the Ground Level of the Channel for preparation of As-Built
Quantities.

- Temporary Access Ramp will be executed to start excavation &

moving the excavated materials & the Areas will be agreed on
with RC to dry the excavated materials to define if the materials
are contaminated as per RC instruction.

- The excavated Area will be graded to the finish grade levels of IFC
Drawings & as per RC instructions. Precautions will be carried
during Rainy Season to maintain the flow Rain Water to the Sea.

- Arched culvert/Outfall Stretches/ Stone Rip-Raping fall will be

constructed in accordance with IFC drawings.

5.2 Maintenance roads

Site Development
Construction Planning & Strategy

Maintenance roads shall be constructed as per IFC drawings

which includes aggregate, base coarse duly compacted and
made available for re maintenance purpose. Suitable aggregate
erosion protection shall be provided along the slopes of shoulder
as per IFC. All suitable signboards shall be installed along the
aggregate roads as mentioned in IFC.

It shall be noted that asphalt paving work does not exists in the
project, hence base coarse shall be well compacted and made
available for the maintenance purposes.

Above mentioned exercise will be implemented in each Segment until

the completion of Channel.

5.3 Access Ramps

After securing RC approvals of the Shop Drawings & materials

will be used, the construction of Ramps will be carried on at the
locations shown on the IFC Drawing.

5.4 Concrete lining & concrete based of Channel:

- Shop Drawing will be prepared to secure RC approvals.

- Side will be graded to match the slopes shown on the IFC &
approved Shop Drawing.
- Wooden Forms & Geo-Grid will be fixed at locations of
construction & expansion Joints.
- Polyethylene & Geo Grid Sheets will be laid prior to placing
concrete.
- Concrete placing will be carried alternatively (every other
span).
- Concreted Surfaces will be cured using Burlap & Water.
- Joint will be sealed using Bituminous Fillers.
- Removal of damaged Base will be agreed on with RC & will be
removed & re-concreted.
- Record will be prepared & kept for preparation of As-Built
Quantities.

- Demolishing of existing fence and relocation of telecom duct

work will be executed as per the IFC drawings.

- Gate, wire mesh fence will also be work will be executed as per
IFC drawings.

5.5 All works will be carried in accordance to approve by RC Quality Control

& Safety procedures.
5.6 During the construction session, As-Built Drawing & Quantities will be
prepared & RC approvals will be obtained prior to demobilization
allocated period including documents required for initial acceptance.

6- METHOD OF DEWATERING

Purpose : The intent of this document is to illustrate the most economical

utilization of the dewatering equipment, giving due
consideration to the various utilities, and their staged
completion below ground.

Equipment: Two (2) Numbers dewatering pumps rated 1530 L/minute,

200 units risers and accompanying well points, header pipes
including valves for phased operation of the dewatering along
the length of trench under preparation.

from second and third excavation and well points being installed.

The length of each selection of the trench is dependent on the capacity

and amount of equipment available. Preliminary calculation checks,
considering distances on the project site, manhole, 53 meters would
appear to be a practical section length to base our construction staging
on. The efficiency of the proposed section lengths, will be judged in the
field under actual working conditions and adjusted if required.

Installation of Equipment:

Excavation to commence from existing grade level to approximately

+300mm above known / standing water table to facilitate the pump suction
level. (Refer sketch below). Second phase excavation will commence to the
lowest pipe invert level in tandem with well pointing installation along the
first section of the trench.

Direction of Works

The total length of the trench and utilities will be by progressive dewatering
and installations section by section in phased activities as shown above.

When 2nd phase of excavation is completed and dewatering has lowered the
existing water down to a minimum level of 600mm below lowest final
bedding level, bedding will be established to line, level and degree of
compaction specified.

Compaction tests will be undertaken in accordance with the specification

requirements and witnessed by the A/E.

1st Hold Point Inspection

Subject to satisfactory compaction results, pipe laying will commence for this
section length of trench. On completion, subject to the required pipe test
satisfying the A/E and Royal Commission, backfilling will commence in
accordance with specification for material, layer thicknesses, compaction and
testing (Refer to typical trench backfilling method statement with all the
specified requirements). Backfilling will proceed up to the bedding level of the
next utility pipe over. At this point 2nd section of the trench excavation
should have commenced. (Hold points)

Trenching, installation of pipework, testing and backfilling will proceed in

stages (refer sketch below) After the establishment of 1st and 2nd Sections of
the trench the next phase will be backfilling and removal of well points which
will be the 3rd Section, as work proceeds in the direction shown.
