This text highlights the notion that the countrys criminal justice system succeeds in placing a
relationship between race and criminality. For example, an unemployed African-American has a
greater risk of committing a crime, and some believe that the justice system is racially and
economically biased and perpetuates the cycle of poverty and crime, especially in minority
areas. I will employ this quote that gives insight into how people in many low-income brackets
feel about the justice system: Minorities believe that they are more likely to be targeted by law
enforcement, more likely to be treated unfairly as they move through the courtroom process,
and are less likely to experience any of the rehabilitative benefits of the correctional system.
The source is credible because comes from an educational publisher, is well-referenced and
was published a few years ago. Now I can incorporate a short discussion on race in my project
and how it may relate to poverty and therefore higher crime levels. It gives statistics I can use in
backing up my findings.
