Directions: Using the template below, describe how students could use a blog, wiki, or other website-
creation tool to learn required learning standards in your content area: For an A grade provide an idea that
reaches a Level of Technology Implementation of 4 or above. Remember higher levels (4-6) require that
students assume adult/professional roles; engage in higher-order thinking; and use technology
create/publish original content for their classmates and/or others beyond their school/classroom. The
learning activities and products should be engaging and meaningful to the students and to others who will

mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers in any
form (whole numbers, fractions, and decimals) by applying properties of operations
as strategies to calculate with numbers, converting between forms as appropriate,
and assessing the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and
estimation strategies.
Brief Description of Learning Experience: Student will work in groups to solve multistep real-
life and mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers.
The student will create a project highlighting areas in the real world where dollar
values increase and decrease. The student will then use creative skills to show
classmates what effects of values in their area can effect fluctuation in a set amount
of money. This project should take no longer that three weeks to complete. The
teacher will be ready to assist and guide as needed to avoid students being stuck.

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): This project would attain a LoTi
level of 5. The students will need to venture into the real world to observe and then research on their
findings. They will then use this information to create a presentation through a private online weblog.
Importance of technology: Using the website will give the students the ability to communicate with each
other without the need at being at the same place every time. While this project could be created and
presented without the technology, the benefits to the learning experience far outweigh the cons. Being able
to communicate instantly, collaborate ideas and make instant changes allow the students to troubleshoot
without the headache of a mess and manual labor. To present, the student will also have access to the
classroom smartboard. This will give them the option to make the presentation interactive should they wish.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing example as a model for your project (whether in part or
whole), include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you borrowed from others.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Since students will be able to choose their method of delivering
their presentations, they must get approval from the teacher if a website is acceptable for use. This will
alleviate any fears a parent may have of a group introducing material that may not be appropriate in the
school.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. Putting the students in groups is a new perspective
on this. I believe it will enhance the learning experience. I hope that the students will be able to process
more information as a group and gather a batter sense of the standard I am trying to get them to understand. 1
Other comments about your proposed activity: While the project is aimed at this particular standard, it
could be used for many different standards.
