Why did you choose these strategies/methods?

I chose these strategies/methods because I feel that they will better help the students to
fully understand all the aspects of creating a budget and being able to stick to it month by
month.

How will you group students for instruction?

My students will be grouped into pairs. They will be able to choose their partner for this
assignment. The student they choose to work with will be their roommate and the
person they will need to split their monthly budget with.

LESSON.

1. How you activate background The students will have 10 minutes to

knowledge. discuss in groups of three how much
money they think they would need for a
monthly budget. This includes rent,
utilities, gas or bus fair, groceries, and
anything extra.

2. Gain student attention. Show a PowerPoint of 5 different

apartments in different cities and ask the
students if they feel these would fit into
their budget. (approx. 7-8 minutes)

3. Demonstrate ..
a. modeling. Show the students a mock budget and the
breakdown of how I came up with all the
numbers. (approx. 5 minutes)

b. guided practice.. Do a walk-through of creating a budget

with the class as a whole by using a graphic
organizer. (approx. 10 minutes)

c. independent practice.. Have the students break up into pairs and

create their own budget based on the
graphic organizer they will be provided.
(approx.. 20 minutes)

4. Bring closure to lesson Have the class come back together and
verbally discuss their budgets in a
question/answer format.
