NURS 208
Sarah Mann
1. Act in a responsible, ethical and accountable manner. I act in a responsible, ethical and
accountable manner by taking part in morning report at the beginning of the shift to transfer the
accountability of the patient as well as at the end of my shift. I take responsibility for my
actions when I have made a mistake. I make sure to correct the mistake I have made and alert
the appropriate person as well as document the issue and actions taken.
2. Establish therapeutic caring, compassionate, and culturally safe relationships with clients and
health care team members. I demonstrate therapeutic caring, compassionate, and culturally safe
relationships with clients and health care team members. I make sure to introduce my self to the
patient and engage in a conversation that makes them happy and confortable. I find interest that
they like or things we may have in common. I am sure to encourage them in taken part in their
care plan and make sure that they know I am available if they need me.
3. Provide effective client education. I enjoy educating patients on different foods they should eat
when recovering from a surgery or injury. I also like helping them understand the healing
process and why doing certain exercises is important in aiding their recovery.
1. Document clearly, accurately, concisely in a timely manner using written and electronic
methods: I currently have the theory-based knowledge to write a progress note. However I need
to work on the way I utilize my words when writing. I do not always use the appropriate way to
address the way my patient looks when giving a head to toe assessment or the way drainage
looks form a catheter. To become proficient I will review how to write these assessments in my
books as well as look at other nurses documentation to get a better idea of how I should be
writing.
2. Respond appropriately to unsafe, unacceptable, and unprofessional behaviours. A nurse on the
unit was acting in a unsafe manner toward the client. He went to change the patient who had an
IV. He disconnected the IV and left it running without putting a cap on to prevent
contamination. I should have told him that it was not the way he should be providing care. I
physical resources. I am able to prioritize nursing care and nursing interventions in order to
manage workload, time, and physical resources. I have been able to work with three patients
and I have been able to do my vitals, head to toe assessment and am care before 12:00 as well
as plan time around that for documentation. However I would like to develop the skill of
prioritizing the patient based off needs rather then being task focused.
