HOW TO PROPOSE A NEW CLUB OR ACTIVITY

Any student or staff member that hopes to add a new club, activity or organization to the LT
Co-Curricular program should follow the steps listed below. All proposals and accompanying
petitions must be submitted after the first day of school but prior to March 1 to be considered. If
you have any questions, please contact the Director of Student Activities.

Step One: The person proposing the club or activity must answer the questions numbered 1-11 on
the attached Proposal Questionnaire and return the document to the Director of Student Activities.
Please answer the questions as fully as possible, paying particular attention to Questions Four and
Five. Feel free to attach any supporting materials to your proposal.

Step Two: The person proposing the club or activity must also submit the attached New
Club/Activity Petition. It should include at least 25 signatures and student ID numbers from
currently-enrolled LTHS students who would agree to join the club or activity should it be
approved. The petition should be returned with the completed Proposal Questionnaire to the
Director of Student Activities.

Step Three: The Director of Student Activities will bring all of the information included in your
answers, along with the completed petition, to the next Stipend Committee meeting. These meetings
are held every quarter. This committee, comprised of teachers, administrators, and a representative
from the Board of Education, will decide to (1) approve the club for a one-year pilot; (2)
recommend the proposed club or activity to the Board of Educations HR Committee; or (3) return
the proposal with suggestions. If a club is proposed for pilot status, it will be reviewed by the
Stipend Committee after one calendar year for possible recommendation to the Board of
Educations HR Committee.

Step Four: Any club or activity that is recommended by the Stipend Committee to the Board of
Educations HR Committee will be considered at their next scheduled meeting, assuming the agenda
permits. If the Board of Educations HR Committee decides not to approve the club or activity, the
Director of Student Activities will inform the person who proposed the club or activity. If the Board
of Education HR Committee recommends the club or activity for approval, it will be submitted to
the Board of Education for approval at the next scheduled Board meeting.

Step Five: Once a club or activity is approved by the Board of Education, the newly created
sponsor position(s) will be advertised to the entire staff. Interested candidates should contact the
Human Resources Department at this time. After the position has been advertised for two weeks
time, the interview process will begin.

Step Six: After a sponsor is hired, the club or activity is officially part of the Co-Curricular program.
At this time, the new sponsor should meet with the Director of Student Activities for an orientation.
Upon completion of the orientation, the club or activity can begin to meet regularly.
