Select Methods, Media, , and Materials 1. The methods for learning the alphabet are singing the song (auditory), writing the letters and coloring pictures (visual, hands-on learning). This caters to more than one sense to help them learn, because they are hearing it and writing it themselves. 2. The media used are computer based tools, a Smartboard, and the internet for a YouTube music video of the alphabet. 3. The materials are our own voices to sound out the letters, crayons and paper to practice writing the letters, and coloring sheets for the letters that have pictures of items that start with the letter. Utilize Media, Materials, and Methods For each listed above, details of how they will be implemented into the lesson to enhance learning with using 5Ps. 1. Preview the materials: The YouTube video chosen needs to be previewed before shown to the class to make sure it is appropriate and caters to the age group. The teacher needs to make sure it is slow enough for young students to hear the letters and catchy enough for them to remember it. 2. Prepare the materials: Before the lesson each day, the materials and the coloring pages for the letters to be learned that day need to be accessible to the teacher and the students. The video should also be up and ready to hit play. 3. Prepare the environment: The circle mat for the students to sit on to learn the new letters and watch the video should be clear of any chairs, tables, books, etc. that might distract them. For the video, the lights should be off so that every students can see the letters on the screen. The sound for the song should be on and up fairly loud so each student can hear it. Crayons need to be on the tables along with the coloring sheets for when they are done going over the letters and singing the song. 4. Prepare the learners: The learners are prepared to learn the new letters by starting out singing the alphabet song, and told which letter(s) they will be learning that day. The teacher may also want to annunciate some words that the children know that start with the letter they are learning (ex: A is for apple). 5. Provide the learning experiences: Incorporating music and coloring keeps them excited and engaged in learning the alphabet. Require Learner Participation Students are engaged in learning first-hand because they start out by all singing the alphabet song together. Each day (or week) they will learn 1 or 2 (or a few more, depending) more letters, so the lesson is used every day until all of the letters of the alphabet are learned. Singing and coloring keeps them excited, engaged, and ready to learn more letters. Evaluate & Revise
