Structures Engineer Experienced, Aircraft Systems and

Modification

Company Overview

Star Aviation is an Aircraft Modification Engineering company performing post-delivery modification of


commercial aircraft and obtaining FAA STC approval and certification. Typical programs include
installation of large crown mounted antenna and radomes, system integration for Inflight
Entertainment (IFE) and Internet and Wi-Fi connectivity solutions, modification design of special
mission aircraft for overseas implementation, cockpit upgrades, etc.

Star Aviation is located in the Brookley Aeroplex in Mobile, Alabama neighboring companies such as
Airbus Engineering, Airbus A320 Neo Final Assembly Line, Safran Group, VT Aerospace and Aerostar
MRO.

Position Overview

Star is seeking an experienced Structural Design Engineer for immediate hire for its Mobile, Alabama
office. This engineer will be trained in the field of Post Delivery Modification of Commercial Aircraft
and eventually be responsible for developing, checking and approving structural designs, 3-D Models,
drawings (i.e. Modification and Installation drawings, Structural Assembly, Detail Parts Drawings) and
reports (for modifications to commercial aircraft). Provide technical leadership on assigned programs.
They will serve as a primary technical interface with external organizations and integrate the efforts
of supporting functions. They will be responsible for providing technical support and guidance to
Associate Engineers and Designers.

Essential Job Functions

Design integration of Structures Systems into commercial Aircraft. Systems include Large Crown
Mounted Antenna and Radomes, Small Antenna, Equipment Racks, Skin Reinforcements and
Repairs, and Monument Mounted Accessories.

Creation of structural installation and integration drawings, assembly drawings, detail drawings
that meet the program requirements including stress, fatigue, weight, manufacturability, cost
and certification

Creation and review of Certification support documents such as Weight and Balance Reports,
Structural Substantiation, Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Analysis(DTA), Finite Element Analysis
(FEA), Interior Compliance Reports, Flammability Assessments, Instructions for Continued
Airworthiness (ICA), Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) Supplements, Illustrated Parts Catalog
(IPC), etc.

Prepare and/or check documentation as necessary to satisfy customer, company and regulatory
requirements.

Present designs at PDR and CDR both internally and to customers

Interface with FAA DERs, DAR and ODA Unit Members (UM) as necessary.

Research aircraft configurations, recommended repairs and materials in model specific Structural
Repair Manuals (SRM),

Work to quickly resolve manufacturing and installation problems.

Formulate, implement and track engineering programs to achieve overall goals, technical
requirements, schedules, contracts, specifications or for problems encountered in design,
development and installation.

Requirements

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent program.

Requires thorough knowledge of CAD and 3-D modeling. SolidWorks experience preferred.
AutoCAD and Catia is beneficial.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite

Good communication skills
