THE CAROL CORPS COFFEE COOZIE

for all your java-jacketing needs!

designed by Mad Maudlin for the first ever Carol Con Gift Exchange!

So these little coozies (a regionalism that I

fully support) are a great stash-buster in
general, since a) even on these tiny
needles, they knit up quick and b)
anybody who regularly consumes hot
drinks in paper cups knows the
importance of having something
substantial between your hand and the
paper.

I knit this up in a cotton-acrylic yarn, for

washability, and it should fit most
standard-sized coffee cups without
slipping. You might want to adjust the size
or the needles you use if you choose a
100% cotton yarn, however, since those
tend to knit up with less stretch.

Materials

Bernat Cotton-ish in Lemon Twill (1), Crimson Twine (1) and Royal Denim (1). You will get
multiple coozies out of just these three skeins, I promise.
A set of five US0 dpns/a US0 circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge. I really
recommend the magic loop method for this if you know how, just because the frequent incs and
decs in the chevron area can result in a lot of shifting stitches between DPNs
Size C crochet hook (or size needed to obtain stars)

STARS (make two of these:)

This is adapted loosely from Lucy's Teeny Tiny Stars: http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/teeny-tiny-
stars.html but with additional picots to make the alternative long and short rays of the star.

Round 1: With the size C hook, ch 2. In the second ch from hook, sc 6. Join with a ss.
Round 2: 2sc in each sc. Join with a ss.
Round 3: *In the first st of the round, sc dc ch2; ss in the second chain from the hook. In the next st, dc
sc. In the third st, ss, then ch3, ss in the third chain from the hook and then ss in the st again.

Repeat from * three more times, then fasten off with a nice long tail.

You might need to tug on your stars and smoosh them around to get the points sticking out nice and
point-y! Sew the stars into place with the tail that you left when you fastened off (and use your last
chance to get the points where you like them); there should be a vertical column of knit stitches
centered on the lowest point of the chevron, for placement purposes.
