Organizational Levels
The structure of an enterprise is represented in the SAP System by the following
organizational levels:
Client
A grouping or combination of legal, organizational, business and/or administrative units
with a common purpose.
Example: a corporate group.
Company code
This level represents an independent accounting unit within a client. Each company
code has its own balance sheet and its own profit and loss statement.
Example: a subsidiary company, member of a corporate group.
Plant
Operational unit within a company code.
Example: production facility, branch office.

Purchasing organization
An organizational unit responsible for procuring materials or services for one or more
plants and for negotiating general conditions of purchase with vendors. The purchasing
organization assumes legal responsibility for all external purchase transactions.
Purchasing group
The purchasing organization is further subdivided into purchasing groups (buyer
groups), which are responsible for day-to-day buying activities.
A purchasing group can also act for several purchasing organizations.

1. Material Master data:
The material master contains information on all the materials that a company
procures or produces, stores, and sells.
It is the company's central source for retrieving material-specific
Data. This information is stored in individual material master records.
The data in a material master record can be divided into two categories:
Data of a purely descriptive nature
This is data with information content such as name, size, or dimension.
Data that the system uses to perform a control function
This is data such as MRP type and price control.
Since different departments in a company work with the same material, but each
department uses different information on the material, the data in a material master
record is subdivided by user department.
Material Master: Organizational Levels
1.2 1 Material Numbering

For every material that your company uses, create a material master record. This record
is uniquely identified by a material number. Maximum length of material number will be
18 characters (numeric and alpha numeric ), it includes special characters and space
also.

Assignment of Numbers to material type
First, you must maintain the groups. Then, you assign the material types to the
groups.
You can assign an interval to one group only.
You can change the number level of an interval manually.
The standard system uses a buffer when assigning numbers to material master
records. The amount of numbers for the buffer is 10. Using this buffer and having
the material number assigned before saving a new material master can lead to
gaps in the number assignment. However, if you reset the number level of an
interval back to the initial value, the R/3 System fills these gaps when you create
new materials.
Industry Sector: 1 character (alphanumeric) & controls the line of industry of the
material master
When you create a material master record, classify the material according to
industry sector and material type.
Industry sectors have control functions in the R/3 System. It determines the
screen sequence and field selection in a material master record. Once you have
assigned an industry sector to a material, you cannot change the industry sector
again afterwards.

Quantity and value updation should be activated against the plant wise . if not
activated quantity and value is not updated in the master master. While doing the
transactions system ask for account assignment .

Quanitity and value updation check is not requird for non stock materials (NLAG).
Material number ranges should be assigned for material type . As per the
requirement number ranges will be assigned to group then material type is
assigned to group.

Define Attribute of Material Type
1.4 Maintain Field Selection for Data Screens

To define whether a field is hidden or displayed, or whether an entry is mandatory or
optional in material master maintenance, you must assign the field to a field selection
group. Define field selection group by using of standard field selection available in the
material type which is created. As per SAP standards use prefix as Z or Y for field
selection group. Make necessary change for the fields like required, optional, display,
hide as per the requirements. It is always recommended to assign one field selection
group to one material type.

Material Groups are used for reporting purpose. These are done at Client Level and do
not belong to any Identity. Multiple material groups can be assigned under one material
type but not vice- versa.

Shipping/packaging instructions
Vendor evaluation

Call objects for n days

Enter the number of days, up to 999 days maximum, for the monitoring period to scan. Do not leave
blank as blank represents zero days.
If a monthly scan is required enter 30 days, if yearly enter 365 days.

This parameter is used to control the period of time for which the system generates maintenance call
objects for on-hold calls.
It is important that the maintenance interval in the scheduling

parameters of the maintenance plan is larger than, or at least equal to the
number of days specified here.

The calculation of the 'to date' (date up to which call objects are
generated), is based on the system date of the report run. The n days
specified are added to the system date of the report run. This produces an
interval. The system generates maintenance call objects for all the on-hold
maintenance calls whose call date lies in this interval.
Example
Call objects for the next 14 days
Report run on: 01.01.2001
The system generates call objects for the on-hold calls until the
01.15.2001.
By using a call horizon of 100% and running deadline monitoring

regularly, this parameter can be used to control how many days in advance
your call objects should be generated. This means that if n days = 14, then
the system generates the call objects 14 days before the actual planned date.
