1. CONTEXT
Trinity College is a co-educational secondary College. Whilst under the
governance of Brisbane Catholic Education, the College seeks to educate young
people in the Marist tradition inspired by the charism of Marcellin Champagnat.

2. VISION AND MISSION STATEMENT OF THE COLLEGE.

VISION STATEMENT 2016 - 2020

Trinity College is a dynamic Catholic community committed to inspiring

students to know and love Jesus in the Marist way.

Our vision is to provide a compassionate, holistic, contemporary learning

environment. We aim to nurture the spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional,
physical and cultural potential of the young people in our care.

Justice Education and Action at the College draws on the Vision Statement of the
College with particular emphasis on making Jesus known and loved in the Marist
way.

MISSION STATEMENT 2011 2015

Trinity College, inspired by our motto In God we Trust, is a Catholic learning

community where the values inherent in the Gospel of Jesus Christ are promoted and
nurtured through the Marial Virtues of, Humility, Simplicity and Modesty. The College
seeks to promote an authentic, contemporary expression of its Catholic Identity
inspiring a Catholic worldview across all aspects of College life and encouraging
students to make meaning and shape purpose through this worldview.

Trinity College:
Guides the spiritual growth of the young people in our care by encouraging prayer
and worship and inviting them to know the person and message of Jesus Christ.
Fosters Catholic Christian morals and values through religious, academic, sporting
and cultural pursuits challenging students to demonstrate integrity and a lifelong
concern for others and the environment.
Optimises the holistic growth and wellbeing of students by providing a learning
environment that encourages positive feelings and attitudes, positive relationships,
resilience, self-optimisation and intrinsic motivation.
Promotes engagement, progress and achievement for each student through the
delivery of excellent learning and teaching opportunities coupled with a strategic
focus on the development of student literacy and numeracy.

The Justice Education and Action program of Trinity College is informed by, and
gives life to, certain aspects of the Colleges mission statement, these being that
Trinity College:

3. RATIONALE
Justice Education and Action at Trinity College is grounded in the Gospel. As such
the College seeks to instil in students a passion and lifelong commitment to
engage in the mission of Jesus.

To act justly and to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)

The Justice Education and Action program of activities at the College reflects the
Brisbane Catholic Education, Justice Education Policy, 2012, encouraging students
to engage in the world through daily active witness to the Gospel and the Mission
of the Church.

Catholic school communities engage in the mission of the Church in the world
through daily active living of the Gospel and by teaching for, and witnessing to
justice education. (BCE Justice Education Policy 2012)

Our Marist Charism calls us to be attuned to the calls of the world,

especially the poor. To have hearts that know no borders.
Marist spirituality, being apostolic, is lived out on mission*. The
mission of Marist apostles is born of the experience of being loved by
God and of our desire to actively participate in the mission of Jesus.
I came that you may have life, and have it abundantly. Like Jesus we
recognise the urgings of the Spirit within, calling us to witness to this
Good News. Out of these inner promptings, the mission of the
Church is born: to proclaim the Kingdom of God as a new way of living
for humanity, We join in this mission of the Church as we look upon
the world with compassion.

As Mary inspired Marcellins style of being on mission she indicates for us the
direction of mission. Just as Mary responded to the needs of Elizabeth we are
inspired to contemplate the circumstances of others, meet them where they are
and take action to meet their needs. Thus contemplation and action are
indispensable elements of Justice Education and Action at Trinity College.

4. OUR VISION FOR JUSTICE EDUCATION AND ACTION

As part of the Religious Life of the College, Justice Education and Action at Trinity
College will compliment the formal teaching of Religion so as to fully implement
the Religious Education program at the College. Through engagement with both
dimensions of Religious Education, students are challenged to be cultural agents
in light of the Gospel; authentic witnesses to the mission of Jesus Christ in the
world today.

5. PURPOSE / OBJECTIVES
Through engaging in the Justice Education and Action Program of Activities from
Year Seven through to Year Twelve students will grow in awareness of the plight of
the poor and marginalised from a local to a global context, develop empathy for
and solidarity with people who live in such circumstances and become committed
to action that goes beyond charity to make their world more just.

6. PROGRAM OF ACTIVITIES
The program of activities falls into two categories, ie Whole school initiatives and
Year level initiatives.

The program of activities indicated here, either Whole School or Year level, are
not meant to be exhaustive but rather provide a sound basis that may be added
to / changed as reflection and social need would indicate.
