DAILY LESSON PLAN

July 25 July 26, 2016


Monday- Tuesday

I - Objectives: At the end of the class the students will be able to:
a. Define what first aid is
b. Explain the importance of first aid
c. Identify first aid measures used in alleviating common injuries such as sprains,
strains, knee injuries, fractures, dislocations.

II Subject Matter:
Topic: Basic First Aid
Time Allotment: 2 meetings, 80 minutes
Materials: powerpoint presentation, pictures, handouts
Resources: Learners Material, youtube.com, Wikipedia.com

III- Procedure:
A. Recall
Review the students previous knowledge about first aid. Let them identify some
pictures of first aid materials on the board and ask the function of the materials.
Ice pack, bandage scissors, gauze, cotton swab, stethoscope, rubber gloves.
B. Motivation
Raise the question: How do you respond to a person who collapsed on the floor?
Gather the students responses and write them on the board.
C. Lesson Proper.
1. Define first aid: immediate and temporary care given to a person who has
been injured or suddenly taken ill. It includes self-help and home care if
medical assistance is not available or delayed.
2. Explain the objectives of first aid: (a) to alleviate suffering (b) to prevent
added/further injury or danger.
3. Discuss the common injury encountered by officiating officials and athletes:
sprains and heat exhaustion and identify the first aid measures given to
alleviate these conditions.
4. Enumerate and explain the other serious injuries that require immediate care
or first aid.
5. Put emphasis on the RICE method. Present some pictures on how the RICE
method is done by first aid providers.
D. Generalization
Summarize the discussion by asking the students the importance of knowing first
aid and how they can apply it in their homes, school and community.

IV. Assessment:
Answer the following questions:
1. What is first aid?
2. What are the objectives of first aid?
3. Give 3 common injuries encountered by athletes.
4. Give the meaning of the RICE method.

a. Identify factors that cause injuries
b. Explain the importance of applying appropriate first aid techniques to an injured
officiating official or athlete

II- Subject matter:


Topic: Factors that Cause Injuries
Time Allotment: 40 mins
Materials: worksheets, handouts, visual aids
Resources: Learners Material, internet

III- Procedure
A. Motivation
Show pictures of unexpected situations that lead to injuries. Emphasize that
injuries can happen anytime, anywhere.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Divide the class into 4. Assign a leader to lead the group in answering the
following questions:
a. List at least 3 factors that can cause injuries
b. Explain why they can lead to injuries
c. How important is knowledge and skills in applying appropriate first aid
techniques to an injured officiating official or athlete?
2. Let the students present their ideas in front of the class.
3. Gather the students ideas on the board and reiterate the answers to the
questions.
C. Generalization
Summarize the activity by putting emphasis on the importance of applying
appropriate first aid techniques.

IV- Assessment
Use the group presentation rubrics to evaluate the groups performance.

V- Assignment
What preventive measures do you do in your homes to keep away from injuries?
Identify some threatening objects in your homes that may lead to injuries.
August 2-3, 2016

I Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
c. Identify hand signals used by referees during basketball tournaments
d. Explain how these hand signals are used in the event

II- Subject matter:


Topic: Basketball Hand Signals
Time Allotment: 80 mins, 2 sessions
Materials: worksheets, handouts, visual aids
Resources: Learners Material, internet, youtube.com

III- Procedure
A. Recall
Review the students previous knowledge about the rules and regulations of
basketball.
B. Motivation
What is the importance of doing hand signals during basketball tournaments?
C. Lesson Proper
1. Start off with video on rules and regulations. Then go over the signals for
traveling, carrying or palming, double dribble, jump ball, goaltending, over and
back, and time restrictions (10 seconds to cross half-court, 5 seconds to get
rid of ball when you pick up your dribble or defenders within arms length of
you, 3 seconds in key area).
2. Then go into different fouls that can be committed. These would include
personal fouls which are considered as any physical contact such as hitting,
pushing, slapping, holding, and an illegal pick and screen. Other fouls can be
committed when a person is shooting, if they dont make the shot, they get 2
free-throw shots, if they make the shot, then they get one free-throw shot, but
if its in the 3 point range, then they get three if they miss. The team is allowed
7 fouls per half, after that the other team goes into to bonus, which is one-
and-one, once they get passed 10 fouls, they are in double bonus and they
get 2 free-throws for any foul committed. Some violations are charging, which
is an offensive foul when the offense runs into the defensive player while their
feet are set. Blocking is when the defender didnt establish position in time to
prevent an offenders drive to the basket. Flagrant and intentional fouls are
when the player purposely tries to foul the other team.
3. Then show another slow motion video of players committing fouls and let the
students recognize them.
D. Generalization
Summarize the discussion by flashing the pictures of the different hand signals
and letting the students identify each.

IV- Assessment
Recognize the different hand signals presented in the following questions:
V- Assignment
How important are the roles of the referees in basketball? Write in a short bond paper.

I - Objectives: At the end of the class the students will be able to:
Demonstrate correct hand signals of referees in Basketball with mastery
Exhibit quick/sharp judgment calls while officiating a game
Realize the value of high level fitness in sports officiating

II- Subject Matter:


Topic: Synchronized Hand Signals
Duration: 1 session
Materials: Flashcards/ Marker/ Whistle
Reference: Grade 9 Book/ Teachers Guide

III- Procedure:
A. Preparatory Activity
1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
B. Review
a. Recall the students by asking them what are role of an officiating official to the
success of a game.
C. Lesson Proper:
1. Group class into 3. Select a leader per group. Leaders will draw lots.
2. The teacher will provide illustrations of hand signals of referees to master
within 5 minutes.
3. After 5 minutes, Group 1s mastery will be assessed first, followed by
Group 2 and 3.
4. In group formation, the 10 flashcards indicating the hand signal to be
executed in synchrony by the group. Upon whistle is given, execute with
your group mates the given hand signal then freeze for 2 to 3 seconds.
5. 2 points will be given to a correctly, timely performed hand signal.
6. The group with most points wins the game.

IV- Assessment
Rating of the students performance through their activity.

V - Assignment:
1. Why is there a need to give precise and immediate calls when officiating a
game?
2. What limits an officiating official from giving precise and immediate calls?

III- Procedure
A. Motivation
How will you describe a community? The teacher will present some examples.
B. Lesson Proper
1. The students are asked to do Activity 1: Venn Diagram on page 222 of the
Learners Material.
2. They are expected to answer the processing questions.
3. Choose some students to present their activities in front of the class.
C. Generalization
Summarize the activity by emphasizing that the health of the community affects
the individuals health as well.

Rating of the worksheets done by individual students.

a. Community- defined as a sociological group in a large place sharing
one environment
b. Community health- defined as the art and science of maintaining,
protecting and improving the health of all the members of the
community through organized and sustained community efforts
c. Environmental health comprises those aspects of human health that
are determined by physical, chemical, biological, social and
psychosocial factors in the surrounding environment
2. Discuss the characteristics of a healthy community according to WHO
found on page 224 of the Learners Material.
3. Present the Primary Health Care programs in the Community. Allow the
students to give common examples of these programs they see in their
community.
D. Generalization
You have now encountered concepts of community and environmental health.
Let the students share what they have understood. Emphasize that the services
given by the government are given for free.

III- Procedure
A. Motivation
Start by doing the pre-activity on page 232 of the Learners Material. Pose the
following questions on the board:
What does the message convey?
If you were Mother Earth, what could be your gift or rhyme to human kind?
B. Lesson Proper
1. Provide an overview of why it is valuable to understand environmental health
conditions and exposure pathways and how this can help us improve human
health.
2. Different perennial problems happen in the different regions of the country.
(Show the diagram depicted on page 233 of the Learners Manual. Show some
pictures and examples the community health problems using a PowerPoint
presentation. )
3. They vary according to factors like: economy, politics, geography, culture and
social context. There are places which experience community health problems
like:
water-borne and communicable diseases
armed conflicts
natural disaster
highly urbanized zones
overpopulated areas
4. Present the table on Refuse Materials by kind, composition and sources.

C. Generalization
A clean and safe environment is crucial in the attainment of a healthy community.
Protecting the health of a community involves protecting the environment from
health hazards. It is more costly for a community to treat rather than prevent
disease. Children must be taught how pollution affects peoples lives. You can
reach out to younger generations and help them to be aware of the proper
disposal of waste to prevent pollution.
