CAFCE
Co-op Student of the Year Awards Committee (2016)
411 Richmond Street East, Suite 200
Toronto, ON M5A 3S5

Dear CSOTYA Selection Committee

It is my pleasure to nominate University of Manitoba Bachelor of Environment Studies Area of Specialization:

Wildlife Management (Major Co-op) student Tiffany Pastrick for CAFCE Co-op Student of the Year Award (2016).
Tiffanys positive personality, willingness to learn, very good interpersonal skills, a great thinker outside the box,
ability to work independent and as a member of the team was exactly what our organization was looking for during
her tenure with us.

Tiffanys Job Title was Wildlife Education Development Coordinator. Her duties included research on wildlife
programs, contacting other wildlife organizations, participate in interpreter training, gathering and compiling
information, develop bilingual educational programs, making recommendations on program delivery and the best
method of delivery. The programming had to meet school curriculum. Tiffany was required to attend outreach
educational presentations, work with others, good communicator and people skills, be a handler of wildlife, develop
and research establishing a gift shop for our new Centre and other duties as may be determined by the
supervisor/mentor. This position allowed our student to be creative, be an out of the box thinker. The programming
being developed has to be interesting to visitors, of all ages, to the Centre and we want them to return for a future
visit to the Centre.

Tiffanys performance exceeded our expectations. She worked closely with our returning student from the previous
year and they worked as a team, albeit working independently on their own specific programs. Tiffany made a
presentation to the Board of Directors on the different wildlife education program that she had developed and they
were very impressed. Tiffany and our other student finalized, our very first book published by Wildlife Haven titled
Wildlife in Your Back Yard. They did the complete layout of photos, including the written portions. There were
many quality control problems with our Printing Company. She contacted the printers and made sure the book was
printed to our specification. Tiffany also contacted other Printers to get pricing should our printer not be able to meet
our required standards. We were impressed in Tiffany wanting to get the best value for our organization. Tiffany
went over and above to ensure the printed version of the book was error free. On November 12, 2016, Wildlife
Haven has an official launch of our book at McNally Robinson in Winnipeg. Tiffany volunteered her time to come
out to the launch and assisted in readings from the book to the audience in attendance. She was totally devoted to the
successful completion of the book including marketing. Even after her term has ended, she continues to volunteer
her time in our wildlife hospital caring for our reptiles ambassadors. Tiffany is always willing to learn and is
creative in developing ideas.

Tiffanys quickly demonstrated to us that she was creative and utilized a common sense approach in developing
programs. Wildlife Haven is currently building a new Wildlife Hospital and Education Centre. Schools and the
general public will be able to attend our Centre to learn about wildlife and the importance of nature. The programs
needed to be developed for people of all ages, from the very young to adults. She built flexibility in the programs to
appeal to younger or older audiences. Programs developed by Tiffany met the school curriculum.

She was a very responsible person. When we asked her to do a particular assignment, you could count on her
completing it by the due dates, reports were completed on time. The programs that she developed will be used by
our organization for years to come.
As a non-profit organization, we relied on funding for our summer intern position from a sponsor. We managed to
obtain additional funding to have Tiffany work part time while attending school after her summer 2016 employment.
She indicated her school workload was heavy and it did not allow her to work part time. This we felt was a sign of
maturity. Her main focus was her schooling. We respect that. The work experience that she received from our
organization is in line with her career path.

Should she want to return to work for Wildlife Haven in the future, we would welcome her.

We strongly support her nomination for the CAFCE Co-op Student of the year award for 2016. We urge the selection
committee to seriously consider Tiffanys as one of the award winners.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours truly,

Roger Perron Project Manager,
