Headline (link) Has Any Company Made an Off-the-Shelf Laundry-Tracking System?
http://www.ozy.com/fast-forward/your-phone-a-weapon-against-counterfeit-merch/75129

When it comes to fraudulent foodstuffs, no other product can match the rich history and
big bucks of the fake olive oil game.

In his role as chair of the Security Technical Working Group of the NFC Forum an
industry organization comprised of the major players in the NFC ecosystem Tony
Rosati is an evangelist for the use of NFC as a foil to counterfeiters. According to
Rosati, who is the head of innovation for the Ontario-based company TrustPoint,
current anticounterfeiting is a combination of bar codes, paperwork, visual
inspections and packaging. All of these are weak systems, Rosati says, and can
easily be tampered with, circumvented or duplicated by expert fraudsters. [Using
encrypted NFC tags] solves that problem. We can totally prevent counterfeiting if
manufacturers are willing to embed tags into their products.

The company plans to roll out the technology to select unattended retail locations
nationwide over the coming months and demonstrated how the service will work at The
Digital Money Forum at CES 2017 in Las Vegas this week.

A white paper available to download from NFC Worlds Knowledge Centre reveals the
results of a six-month study by USAT that tested targeted point-of-sale advertising of Apple
Pay at unattended vending machines.

It found such targeted, interactive digital advertising combined with a call to action
increased total sales, encouraged customers to use their iPhone to make payments and
that, when asked to pay with their phones, customers were more likely to make additional
purchases.
