evaluation, it is further shown that no pipelining is required for implementing a
directformLMSadaptivefilterformostpracticalcases,andcanberealizedwithaverysmalladaptationdelayincaseswhereavery
highsamplingrateisrequired.Basedonthesefindings,thispaperproposesthreestructuresoftheLMSadaptivefilter:(i)Design1
having no adaptation delays, (ii) Design 2 with only one adaptation delay, and (iii) Design 3 with two adaptation delays. Design 1
involvestheminimumareaandtheminimumenergypersample(EPS).Thebestofexistingdirectformstructuresrequires80.4%more
areaand41.9%moreEPScomparedtoDesign1.Designs2and3involveslightlymoreEPSthantheDesign1butoffernearlytwice
andthricetheMUFatacostof55.0%and60.6%morearea,respectively.
