1.0 BACKGROUND
The Operation Services Department has been requested to provide

technical assistance for the upgrade of the Fire Water Facility located at
Mensah Kumta Village, NGGL- Ahafo Site.
Since natural disasters are inevitable, the client deems it necessary to

provide the fire water system to fight any such occurrence at the village. It
is in this direction that the client engages the services of a consultant to
undertake a comprehensive engineering study and design towards the
construction of facilities to upgrade the fire water system at the Mensah
Kumta Village.
The project will be in two phases; Scope 1 and 2. This Scope of Works
specifically spells out details of Scope 1 which involves the design of a
facility to pump water from the boreholes into a ground seated water
storage tank (The water will be used to serve the fire hydrants and the fire
tender).
The Engineering work shall be done in accordance with Specifications,

Data Sheet and Project Design Criteria for fire water as listed in Section
5.0 hereinafter called the Works.
2.0 SCOPE OF WORK
The Scope of Work described in this document covers the Engineering of

Scope One (1) of the Fire Water Facility and all accessories for Mensah
Kumta Village. The engineering shall be grouped into three sections as
outlined below:

2.1 Civil Designs
• Design a concrete pad for the ground seated water storage tank.
• Design a concrete pad and shed for the genset.
• Assess the yields of the existing boreholes PW-8 to determine

adequacy of it capacity and make the necessary recommendations.
2.2 Mechanical & Piping Designs
• Design a submersible borehole pump required to pump water from

the borehole to the ground seated water storage tank.
• Design a water storage tank of an acceptable capacity near the

existing borehole PW 8.
• Design a flow meter and the accessories between the borehole and
water storage tank.
• Determine the appropriate HDPE pipe sizes and the accessories

for the fire water system.
• Design a steel pipe stand with its support and accessories for
discharging fire water into the fire tender.

2.3 Electrical and Instrumentation Designs
• Compute the calculations for the submersible pump, the transfer

pump capacity recommended including the cable sizes and panels
required for this project.
• The borehole pump shall be automated with the level indicator,

pressure relieve valves, pressure indicator and flow indicator, control
panel (for fault detection, level control system) and all other
necessaries fixtures to ensure satisfactory operation / maintenance of
the system.
3.0 ENGINEERING DELIVERABLES
• Design Report
The report must include the following items, but not limited to
– Design Criteria, Assumptions and Constraints.
– Pipe pressure and hydraulic calculations,
• Bill of Quantities and Cost Estimates for the entire project.
• Tender and Construction Drawings
• Process Flow Diagrams, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, etc
• Construction Scope of Work for incorporation into the tender

documents.
• Technical specifications for the whole system including, but not

limited to earthworks, concrete works, piping, mechanical, electrical,
workmanship, etc.
• Electro-Mechanical data sheets to support procurement.

4.0 ASSUMPTIONS
The following assumptions were made for the Project:

• The existing boreholes, PW 8 (capped – not in use) have yields of
40litres/min.
