Journal Body:

In my first week in GEMS private school, I have gone to a meeting at 10:30am so they can

inform us with our MCTs and the grade level we are going to teach. They took us in a tour

inside the school to see the placement. I liked the placement in general but it was a little bit

confusing for the first time and I have lost once while I was looking for my class. By the time I

have managed the saving of the placement.

I have set with my MCT and talked about the children and the curriculum which made me feel

comfortable talking to her and discussing things.

Planning

Planning the lesson is an important aspect that any teacher must take into account because it

reflects her preparedness and professionalism. When the plan is done, the teacher can explain the

lesson very well clarifying the learning objectives, strategies and activities with appropriate

timing for each one. It can help in designing the classroom and increasing the teachers ability to

achieve her outcomes at the end of the lesson.

In GEMS school, I noticed that science lesson planning has been a major aspect to consider

during the year which called (yearly overview 2016-2017).

In our first day, the school has informed us that they will give us the Science Planning Folder

for term2 (spring) so we can have a deeper look into what is been teaching in grade one

curriculum. The planning folder includes the name of units divided along the year (Autumn1,
Autumn2, Spring1, Spring2, Summer1, and Summer2), each units with its learning objectives

must achieved. Also it consists of the lesson plans for each lesson in the units in details.

In each lesson plan, a summary of the lesson is written at the beginning with the expectations of

students achievements. Then the learning outcomes is written for students to achieve at the end

of the lesson. According to (Milkova, n.d.), Letting your students know what they will be

learning and doing in class will help keep them more engaged and on track.

Additionally, the activities were written in details so it will be easily applied by the teachers or

any other person who comes to teach that lesson such as us trainer teachers.

As differentiation must be considered in planning any lesson to provide each grade level with the

appropriate materials and conditions to succeed the subject taught. In the science planning form,

there are some structures for differentiation each lesson and the accommodations must done for

each level group to accommodate them.

The planning form provides the teacher with possible resources for the lesson as well which

makes it easier to use the appropriate ones. It is also helpful in brainstorming other ideas that

comes to our heads while looking into plans resources.
