Through a combination of work placements and selected training you will develop key engineering skills to work in our market
leading organisation. Apprentices will rotate around engineering placements giving you an opportunity to work with a range of
teams, such as, production, system testing, R&D, Software, IT, Sales & Marketing etc.

Main Duties

Assisting in the design, test and implementation of software

Helping to specify user/system interfaces
Setting up systems including the connection of test equipment
Implementing design in relevant programming languages (C, scripting language, Java etc)
Producing design documentation, under supervision, for components being developed based on agreed requirements, system
design specifications and relevant standards specification
Correcting deficiencies against requirements
Programming firmware
Troubleshooting software configurations
Installation & use of operating systems such as windows, Linux, Sun Solaris
Work alongside engineering teams to integrate products
Checking test results, and documenting test failures and successes compared with pre-determined criteria, in accordance with
agreed standards.
Assisting in defining acceptance tests for systems and reviewing system requirements in terms of testability.
Inspecting PCB assemblies
Conducting research, data collection and analysis
Evaluating and reconciling information gathered from multiple sources
Building basic process maps in the support of analysis work.

Key Skills & Experience

Must have
5 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and English
A Levels or equivalent in relevant subjects
A knowledge of programming or scripting languages e.g C, Shell, Python etc
Good communication skills both verbal and written
Good organisational skills

Advantageous
A basic understanding of software testing concepts and testing methodologies
A knowledge of packet and TCP /IP technologies
A knowledge of LINUX operating systems
A technical knowledge or interest in telecom technologies
A knowledge of mobile network technology
A knowledge of Local Area Networks (LAN)
A knowledge of PC and server hardware
