Naga leaders are claiming that they want integration of Manipur, Assam and
Nagaland: Assam BJP MP Sarmah
NEW DELHI: BJP MP from Tezpur Ram Prasad Sarmah on Tuesday strongly took up
the controversy over Naga leader Isaac Muivah's claim that "greater Nagalim" has
been conceded, indicating the tightrope the saffron party will need to walk on the
issue now that there are NDA governments in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.

The matter was taken up in the Lok Sabha during the zero hour when Congress MP
from West Bengal Adhir Ranjan Choudhury asked the government to clarify on the
issue since there was an apparent confusion on the sensitive matter. He said the
Centre claimed that a six-decade-old problem had been resolved in wake of a
framework signed between the Centre and NSCN-IM.
"There are conflicting reports coming now. The NSCN-IM leadership is claiming that
integration of all Naga-inhabited areas has been accepted by the Centre while the
government has denied it. What is the truth?" he asked.

Even before Choudhury finished, the issue was taken up by an agitated Sarmah,
who said, "It is a very important issue of integrity of Assam, Manipur, Arunachal....
Naga leaders are claiming that they want integration of Manipur, Assam and
Nagaland, which is totally illegal. The states of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal
cannot accept it. The Government of India should stop it. Nagaland should return
our territories Dimapur, Sapekhati, Merapani and other areas and Oriam Ghat. It
is our demand. People of Assam will never accept this proposal of greater
Nagaland."
The Modi government might now find itself under pressure to resolve the issue as
the current regional configuration and the BJP regime at the Centre provide the
political leverage to conclude negotiations with Muivah. While there was no reply
from the government's end on the issue, it is to be seen how it deals with the issue
that has the potential to turn volatile.

It is the BJP which is keeping the Naga Accord a secret . What is there to hide ?
Rajiv Gandhi showed a lot of sagacity in inking the Longowal and Assam accords. Mr
Modi has yet to show the spirit of openness and accommodation needed to solve
tricky issues. The Naga Framewok is still a secret document . Why ? Now the ball is
firmly in NDA's court and no point in blaming things on what the Congress or
Vajpayee did.

Govt. may find the real reason behind escalation of this issue now, if they check the
data of travel of the agitating NE members.
There is a reason every now and then Gandhi family leaves India and goes on world
tour.

Aiming to bring about change in the healthcare scenario and to bridge the gap of
the northeastern region in health transformation as well as to enhance capacity
building, an important project has been initiated by the Public Health Foundation of
India (PHFI), supported by the ministry of development of north eastern region
(DoNER). Despite the region being the most vibrant in the country, it lags behind in
key health indicators. Negligence, lack of awareness of health issues and lack of
infrastructure and manpower has shrunk the overall development of the region.

Trump looks forward to hosting PM Modi in Washington later this year: White House
WASHINGTON: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet US President Donald Trump
when he travels to Washington later this year.
"President Trump has said he looks forward to hosting Prime Minister Modi in
Washington later this year," a statement issued by the White House said on
Wednesday.
"President Trump also expressed support for the Prime Minister's economic reform
agenda and emphasized his great respect for the people of India," the statement
said.
This was the third telephonic conversation between the two leaders after Trump's
electoral victory in November last year.
"President Donald J Trump spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India to
congratulate him on the outcome of India's recent state-level elections," the White
House said in a readout of the call which took place on Monday.
Earlier, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters on Monday that
Trump congratulated Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on their electoral
victories.
"The president spoke with German Chancellor Merkel and Indian Prime Minister Modi
earlier today to congratulate them on their parties' success in recent elections,"
Spicer said.
The two leaders are expected to meet on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit in
Germany in July.
Following the elections, the BJP formed government in four states: Uttar Pradesh,
Manipur, Uttarakhand and Goa. It, however, lost Punjab to main rival Congress.
Merkel's Christian Democrat party easily won an election in the Saarland state on
Sunday, dealing an early blow to centre-left hopes of ending her more than decade-
long reign.
"The two leaders also used the occasion to reflect on the Chancellor's March 17 visit
to the White House. The President said he looked forward to visiting Hamburg,
Germany for the G-20 Summit on July 7th and 8th," the White House said.
Previously, PM Modi and US President Trump spoke on phone on January 24, when
they had resolved to stand "shoulder-to-shoulder" in the global fight against
terrorism and for defence and security.
According to a White House statement then, Trump had "emphasised that the US
considers India a true friend and partner in addressing challenges around the
world."
Prime Minister Modi was the fifth foreign leader Trump had spoken to on phone after
he was sworn-in as the US President on January 20.
He had by then spoken to British Prime Minister Theresa May, Canada's Justin
Trudeau, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu and the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
After Trump's surprise victory in the November 8 elections, PM Modi was among the
first world leaders to congratulate him.
