Tips on how to pass the exam: from different sites

10 TIPS IN TAKING THE LET EXAM

1. DETERMINE YOUR STRENGTH AND WEAKNESSES
You know yourself better than anyone else so Im sure it wont be hard for you to do. First, take a
look at your Transcript of Records (TOR) or you can just assess yourself to realize what subjects you
find yourself having trouble. For example, some of the Filipinos, including yours truly are not good
in Math, whats in for you? Take note also of your strong points. List down all of these subjects and
proceed to tip number 2.
2. CREATE A TIME FRAME
After listing all your strengths and weaknesses, you can now assign a working schedule for each of
them. Make it one at a time. I repeat ONE AT A TIME. I said that because having a cluttered
schedule or To do list will result into information overload which, I tell you, is not good.

So for example, if youre not good in Math and Science, you may schedule a time for each of them.
Lets say youll have Math for the morning and Science in the afternoon or you may review Math on
M-W-F and Science on T-Th. But of course devote also some of your time to review other subjects;
you can do it for two weeks or a month and then move on with other ones. And for the subjects
where you are good at, you may also set a schedule for them to further enhance the retention of
knowledge.
3. REMEMBER THE MUST REVIEW CONCEPTS FROM PROFESSIONAL AND
GENERAL EDUCATION SUBJECTS
For General Education, review the basic and general concepts of each subject. Remember that you
have taken most of these concepts back in elementary and high school so theres a great possibility
that you have forgotten them already.
For Math: Fractions, Volumes, Percentage, Areas, and Elementary Algebra
For English: Figures of speech and the Subject and Verb Agreement.
For Filipino: Tayutay, Retorika, Pagbasa at Pagsulat
For Science: Biology, Physical Science and Earth Science.

Thats quite many to accomplish so again review each subject ONE AT A TIME
Meanwhile, for Professional Education, I advise you to focus on the major philosophies of education.
There are few subjects which are frequently present on the actual examination, these are:
Educational Philisophies The famous isms (Realism, Idealism, Pragmatism, and many more.)
Principles of Teaching
Facilitating and Learning
For Childhood Development, remember Freud (Psychosexual), Erikson (Psychosocial) and Gardner
(Multiple Intelligence)
4. IMPROVE YOUR ANALYTICAL SKILLS
LET is all about common sense and analytical skills. Most of the questions are situational ones and
will surely squeeze your brain out. To lessen the difficulty, the best technique you can use is the
elimination method or just what I said, your common sense. Ill discuss this further on the 10 Tips in
taking the LET Exam Part II: On Examination Day The BIG Day.
Tip: There are some observations which states that LET examinations nowadays contain a lot
of SATA (Select All That Apply) questions. What you can do is to try to answer a handful of these
questions to develop your analytical thinking skills.
5. DONT PROCRASTINATE
Maana habit somehow became an attachment to Filipino culture. So Im not asking you to kick it
off your lifestyle, instead Im appealing to you that even for a month or two, try to avoid it. SELF-
DISCIPLINE and FOCUS on your goal will be a defining factor for your success so learn how to
control yourself to fight distractions while having your review.

Tip: When reviewing, avoid places where there are beds or a couch, the tendency is that you will
have a hard time controlling your sleepy head especially when you know theres a comfortable bed
just a few steps from you. And one more thing, STAY AWAY FROM FACEBOOK!
6. ENJOY THE REVIEW
Theres no greater feeling than enjoying what you are doing and if you do, chances are you will be
able to remember and understand all the things you put in your mind.
7. TAKE SOME REST
You are not a robot and you are not Superman. If youre the type of person who takes review
religiously, then take some time to rest. At the end, you will realize that you should be physically
healthy especially on examination day. You dont want to take the exam feeling sluggish.
8. HAVE FAITH
Being physically fit before and during the examination day is not enough; you also need to feed your
soul. You will feel good about yourself when you know that you have God on your back when you
take the LET. Pray and thank God every time possible, He will not let you down.
9. HAVE PEACE OF MIND
Keep calm and relax. A day or night before the big day, watch a movie, or have a healthy dinner
with your friends, this will keep you out of the stresses you had in your review.
Heres an optional tip. You may follow this one or not. Before the exam, do not try to bring any
review material. But why? Heres the thing, when you take your materials with you on or before the
examination, theres a possibility for you to get stressed. How? Okay lets say youre the subusub sa
pag-aaral or the last minute type of person and you attempted to look at any of your reviewers
hours before the exam and found terms or concepts which you didnt know of, then it might bother
you and cause you headache. Again, that would bring you no good. But as I said, this is optional and
you may follow your own preferences.
10. JUST DO IT
Lastly, when you are already physically, spiritually, and mentally ready for the exam, which I
mentioned on tips 7, 8, and 9 respectively, then its time that you DO IT. I mean pack all the things
you need to bring for the exam and prepare yourself for the big day. Leave your gadgets including
your cell phone as this is not allowed inside the examination room. Make sure you have checked
your room assignment. Set your mind towards your goal to pass the LET. Lastly, sleep early the
night before the exam and as you wake up in the morning, thank and ask the Lord for His guidance.
Oh and I almost forgot, dont forget to bring your Notice of Admission (NOA).

Are you one of the test takers for the coming Licensure Examination for Teachers
(LET)?
You must be worrying about what lies ahead now. You must be finding yourself
feeling stressed and pressured these days. Well, this I say to you: You should keep
calm and do the following:

1. MAKE A LIST OF YOUR WEAKEST SUBJECTS WHEN YOU WERE IN

COLLEGE.

Its important to give focus on the subjects that you had difficulties with during your
college days. Remember, the exam comprises of different areas and its not good to
set aside the subjects you are weak at.

2. CREATE A TIME TABLE.

You should of course, set your goal. If you want to hit your target, you should finish
doing everything at a given time. Put in your mind that you have a very limited time
to review the subjects you studied for four years. So, list down each subject that you
have to review and identify how long it will take you to study them.

3. KNOW THE FOCUS OF THE EXAM.

The Professional Regulation Commission releases the coverage of the test months
before the date of examination. Make sure you have the copy of it so you would know
what subject areas you are going to study and how long you are going to spend
reviewing them.

4. SPEND AT LEAST 1 TO 4 HOURS READING LECTURES.

Research shows that reading for at least an hour or two can activate brain cells. It also
shows that doing so regularly could enhance retention. So if you want to remember
the all that you studied about on the day of examination, make sure that you get
yourself used to reading for an hour or more.

5. DONT MEMORIZE TOO MUCH.

Yes, there are some questions (especially in the subjects, History and Math) that really
require you to memorize. But lemme tell ya that almost 75% percent of the questions
are situational so instead of memorizing, try understanding deeply the lectures you are
reading. Retention is higher when you digest and relate what you read to other
concepts or ideas.

6. GET ENOUGH SLEEP, RELAX AND DONT FORGET TO TAKE A REST.

Dont stress yourself for the overnight reviews and all. If you fail to take a rest
because of studying too much, youll just make things worse. It is proven that a sound
mind and a relaxed body can help people think and recall better.

7. DONT TAKE GENERAL EDUCATION LIGHTLY.

The exam is divided into three areas. General Education, Professional Education and
your Major.
40% of your general average is from your major. Another 40% from Professional
Education and the remaining 20% from General Education. Yes, Gen. Ed. Is only
20% of your average thats why test takers often focus on Prof. Ed and Major a lot not
knowing that General Education is the hardest part of the test. Most questions in this
area are about the topics you have studied during elementary days and are very hard to
recall. Do not be assured that youll be able to answer the questions easily thinking
that this areas just about the basics. Lots of test takers pass the Major and Prof. Ed
but fail in General Education that they fail the exam as well.
8. BUY A REVIEWER

This is what I strongly recommend guys! I bought a reviewer for General and
Professional Education in front of the PRC office before I took the test. The
questionnaire and the answer key were provided. I read it but I found out that the
answer key was wrong so I answered each question through the help of the internet. It
was really helpful since the questions in the reviewer were the exact questions given
when I took the board exam.

9. PREPARE EVERYTHING THAT YOULL NEED WEEKS BEFORE THE

EXAMINATION.

Its always better to prepare early so I suggest that you prepare the pencils, erasers,
calculators, STAMPED/METERED ENVELOPE, PRC RECEIPT, Notice of
Admission (NOA), ruler and HANKY (use it when wiping the eraser dust on your
paper) 2 or 3 weeks before the exam. You cant afford to feel stressed or worried
about the unavailability of these things days before the exam.

10. PRAY.

Of course, its always him who will decide your fate so keep on
being MAKULIT and keep asking him to guide you not just on the date of the exam
but throughout your life. You will need him even after passing the LET since you will
have the biggest responsibility in the world. Youll be a teacher. YOU WILL
SHAPE THE FUTURE and to do it successfully, youll need his help THE
ONE WHO SHAPED THE WHOLE WORLD PERFECTLY.

Good Luck teachers!
