Concept Map on Inequality
Standards:
W.S.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas,
concepts, and information clearly and accurately through the effective concepts,
and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization,

W.S.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization,
and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience
Directions: This assignment is to be done in the span of one class period, if you do
not finish, you may work on it at home and bring it in the next day. A concept map
allows for students to look at the material theyre reading visually, while also
helping to create connections that might not have been seen before. Students will
have a better grasp of standards W.S.2, SL 2., and W.S.4 which include working with
others and presenting their ideas to another person persuasively, producing clear
and coherent writing, and writing explanatory texts to explain complex ideas.
Steps:
1) Students will pair up in groups of 2 and choose one branch of inequality:
Gender, economic or social and read their prospective article to gather more
information as to what that inequality looks like:

2) After reading their article, students will then find 4 topics and back up those
topics with scenes found in the book. Each evidence bubble will need:
a. Three or more sentences of concrete evidence explaining the situation
in the book and why/how it is displaying inequality.
*Students may use the internet to find definitions and more examples of what their
field of inequality is and what it looks like. AN EXAMPLE CAN BE FOUND ON PAGE 3
OF THIS DOCUMENT.
Scoring guide: 23pts. Total
