Phong Nha Ke Bang is located in central Vietnam, about 500km south of the capital, Hanoi, within the
Quang Binh Province. It is famous for the ancient quarter of Hoi An and the My Son historical site. Its
name derives from Phong Nha cave, the most beautiful one, with numerous fascinating rock formations,
and Ke Bang forest. The plateau is probably one of the finest and most distinctive examples of a complex
karst landform in Southeast Asia. It covers 857.54 km2
It was established in 2001and it is now the fifth UNESCO recognised site in Viet Nam after Ha Long Bay,
the imperial city of Hue. The fauna of the Park is typical of the limestone karst forests of the Annamite
mountains. 568 vertebrate species have been recorded: 113 mammals, 302 birds, 81 reptiles and
amphibians and 72 fish. It was established in 2001 and it is now the fifth UNESCO recognised site in
Vietnam after Ha Long Bay, the imperial city of Hue.

U Minh Thuong National Park is located in An Minh Bac commune of An Minh district, and Minh Thuan
commune of Vinh Thuan district, Kien Giang province, 365 km south-west of Ho Chi Minh City. It is
famous for a climax primeval forest, with mixed mangrove forests and mangrove forests on peatland of
about 3,000 ha, and the tropical wetlands forest ecosystem which is very rare in the world. It covers 21,107
ha.
It is widely considered the richest region in terms of plant and animal life in the Mekong delta. There are
243 species of plants: 243, 187 species of birds, 32 species of manmals and 39 amphibian reptiles.
