MUSIC
Remember “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”, “Hansel and Gretel”, or “Puss in Boots”? Well
now your child will come to love these tales as we use them to explore characters,
strengthen verbal and reading skills, and learn foundational acting skills. See a fairy
tale come to life in a final class performance for friends and family!
Acting 4 Adults
Experienced or not, this class is for anyone who wants to take a serious look into the
art of acting. It will be a class suitable for anyone looking to discover acting talent,
meet new people, develop spontaneity, and much more. *SPOTS ARE LIMITED!
Here you will learn all the basic rules of technical theatre. You will become a wiz in
the scene shop after we learn all about tools, the history of the theatre, prop design,
and painting. You will also learn how to build set pieces for shows. Your work will even
be used in our very own shows!
Stage Management
Take this class and learn all the things you will need to know about calling a show,
taking charge, and keeping the show running smoothly. Our goal is to give our students a
chance to well-rounded and appreciative theatre-folk. Who knows? You may even find your
calling!
Directing
Take charge and become a director! This hands-on class will teach students how to read a
scene or script and then put their vision on its feet. They will direct different genres
of short scenes throughout the workshop. The final presentation will be a performance for
family & friends where each director will have a cast of 2-4 perform a twenty minute
INSTRUCTOR APPROVED scene from a musical or play.
“Let’s start at the very beginning…” The beginning really is a very good place to start
and this class is going to teach you all the basics. For those students who are ready to
take the plunge into music, we will teach with fun learning activities, lessons, and
participation exercises. Become acquainted with the staff, music notes, and all the other
important factors you have to know before moving to the next step.
Music Theory
Being able to understand and read music is very important for any performer and at
Upstage we want outsiders to see how ahead of the game our students are. We will use fun
music examples from musicals and popular music! We will keep our focus on the things that
you will have to use on a daily basis in musical theatre. Impress audition panels and
choir directors with your theory abilities that most people do not learn until college.
(This class is offered EVERY FALL!)
“Sing Out Louise!!” Upstage will offer lessons for students who want vocal technique
training. Our lessons will focus on proper breathing and support, intonation, sight
reading, song study, and warm-up. These techniques will create a strong, well-rounded
repertoire for any performer.
Need to know how to plunk out your part? Want to be able to play warm-ups? Wanna play
“Happy Birthday” for Mom this year?! Private piano lessons are perfect for anybody at any
level!
Private Coachings

quality productions while learning how to work together as an ensemble. Once enrolled
in the class, each student will audition to be cast in the end-of-
the-semester MUSICAL! Everyone enrolled is guaranteed to be cast in the production.
*Please be aware that as the show approaches we will be required to call extra
rehearsals.
*There will also be an additional $50 production fee per student each semester that will
go towards paying for costumes, sets, props, etc.
WORKSHOPS
Theatre 411
This course is going to touch base on basic etiquettes of the theatre, stage directions
(upstage, downstage, backstage, etc.), call times, theatre terminology that everyone
should know, and much more!
Audition 101
It is very important that a performer understands the true “ins and outs” of an
audition…from the song to the headshot and resume to the cold read. The classes will
consist of cold reads, song selection, “mock” auditions, and more.
(This workshop is highly recommended if you are a newbie or just don’t feel very
comfortable auditioning!)
Stage Make-up
Knowing how to do your make-up is very important for all performers. You may not always
have your own personal stylist, so we are here to make sure each student is provided with
the proper knowledge of the basic techniques of make-up. In this 8-WEEK WORKSHOP, the
students will learn how to do old age, pin curling for wigs, facial hair, animal, scars,
and much more! This class is highly recommended for those enrolling in our production
company. (If you wish to purchase a good stage make-up kit they are extremely handy to
have around!)
Ages 2-4 Mon &/or Wed 10:15-11:15 AM Tuition: $50/month for ONE day
w.parent or guardian $90/month for TWO days
Music Theatre Dance
Come enjoy the most common dance style of Musical Theatre! Learn combinations to all
sorts of exciting and appropriate music while developing proper technique in turning,
leaping, and warming up that will make you a stronger dancer.
Students will become familiar with the three important dance techniques in Musical
Theatre. This class will consist of Jazz, Tap, & Ballet. The instructor will spend 3-4
weeks focusing on one style’s techniques, terms, and combinations. Some of the kids may
be stronger at one style of dance than others, but this class was specifically created to
educate and push each student to become stronger dancers for the future.
Dance 4 Adults
In this class, we will explore the different areas of dance. We will split our weeks up
by dance combination and perfect the many styles. Dances will vary from disco to line
dance to showchoir to Fosse. None of our dances will be too hard for anyone! We just want
to have fun, sweat a little, and explore different areas of dance!
