The word immortal means deathless.

I. Every material thing in this world has a death sentence.

A. God created mankind to live (Gen 2:7).
God and man shared life on the same level.
B. Sin brought death into this world (Gen 2:17).
1. Physical death is a consequence of sin: Rom 5:12.
2. Spiritual death is a consequence of sin: Isa 59:2.
3. The only way to have that spiritual life from God is to repent
of our sins and ask for forgiveness through Jesus Christ.
C. The physical world is dying according to the 2nd Law of
Thermodynamics; death is in the whole world system.

II. Jesus offers us immortality (John 7:37).

A. Immortality comes through the gospel (2 Tim 1:10).
Believers seek for immortality (Rom 2:7).
B. Immortality is possible through the resurrection: (1 Cor 15:53-54).
C. Dead saints are still alive (Matt 22:32).
D. John Owen: I am yet in the land of the dying, but I hope soon to
be in the land of the living.

III. If Jesus is God, and God is immortal, could Jesus die? Yes.
Jesus took on a human body and that human body was subject to
death...because He took our sins; He was the sin-bearer.

God is the King, eternal, immortal.

What He has promised will be fulfilled.
